Question Is it Dead?

[FONT=courier new][SIZE=1][COLOR=darkblue]
Hello, I am new to these boards, registering due to a problem. I have a x5 Axim, and have had it for almost a year.

The problem is it doesn't turn on. I think the screen is dead, because i can still charge it, and the charging lights still come on, and the dell logo still shines, but when i try to turn it on, nothing happens.

How close to a year have you had it?

Hopefully it will still be in warranty and you can
get it replaced.

I would give Dell a call asap.

I know this sounds silly, but this happened to me and I was freaked out. Come to find out that the backlight was turned off.

Dell walked me through it.

Can you see anything on the screen under a bright light? If so, the backlight is off, as ecolihapns suggested. The on/off switch has two functions, one is on/off, the other is bright/dim. If you click quickly, you get on/off, if you hold it down, you get bright/dim. If you try to turn it on and hold it down, it will come on, but at full dim (backlight off).

Also, check to see if it will connnect through the cradle. If so, it's coming on and the screen is the problem.

Well, it doesn't really turn on, the light on the power switch only lights up when i plug in the power.

I think it is dead.

I don't mean to sound like jumping on a dead body here but I'm looking for some parts for a broken X5.
Send me a PM if you decide that there is nothing you can do and that you need a new pda.
We can make a deal depending on the accessories you have and the condition of the pda.

OK, now my advice. Have you tryied to sync? Does it work without a problem?
That could be a good way to see if you need a new LCD or also the MOBO is gone.
The idea is that if it charges it doesn't mean that the pda is working. It only means that it's receiving power.
Now you want to check every possible step. So first try to sync. If it works (you can navigate trough the folders of your pda) then the MOBO is fine. The second test is to try tapping and see if you see any reaction, like sounds. This will be hard to do. For exmple I have a precise point on my lower bar where I have the icon to shut down the pda via software. Another place to turn on the speaker. If you have something like that you can try to remember the positions and see if the digitizer is broken.

Ok this is all I could think of. Let me know how it goes.

Nico

That's exactly how it should be. The power switch should never light up when the unit is on battery power.

Try to sync the unit. Then do a soft reset. If still no go, do a hard reset.

i can't sync. I formated a little while back, and I re-installed active sync, and it can't detect it.

I can't power up

The last thing that happened the X5 would power on but not go beyond the home page. It sat while I was on vacation for a few weeks and I went to turn it on & nada, zip, goose egg. I try to charge it I get no light no nothing I tested the back up battery it shows 2.77 volts. I tested the main battery 2.? volts (weak?). So I don't know what the deal is. Should I attempt to have Dell or some other place fix it. Not in warranty of course at least I think its up. Any suggestions?
