When it's flashing you get messages constantly, showing the progress.

He's already tried a hard reset, and removed both batteries overnight which will also cause a hard reset.

Axium X5 Freezes @ Blue Screen
I know several people have reported their X5 freezing up at the Blue Dell Logo Screen. I too have this problem. I have also tried to run the internal diagnostic routine that you access using the 4-botton dance (I think you know what I mean). When the diagnostics get to the SDRAM Testing page, the PDA seems to freeze again indicating the SDRAM testing is proceeding. After 30 minutes on this page I gave up. Would this mean that my SDRAM may be faulty? If it is, does anyone think it is worth paying $199 to Dell to replace or fix the X5 or should I get a new PDA? I use this PDA almost exclusively for GPS purposes and my GPS receiver is a CF card type receiver. Any help will be most appreciated.

OK just to update.
I have never got past this screen. No matter how long I leave my AXIM on.
Recognised the CF card and the ROM image, but that's it.

Init CF card ok!
Determining Card Type....
Storage Card Found!

If I can't get it fixed, which is looking more likely, I'll look at selling off the working bits.
Or perhaps buying a motherboard only, if anyone can help with a source.
Thanks anyway guys..

I can see an Axim with a broken screen being offered on e-bay for $30. Maybe you could use the motherboard from it. (Auction finishes in 30 minutes but similar offerings should emerge occasionally.)

Hello guys,
I'm wriing from Italy, so please excuse me for my bad english...
I have some troubles like you with my axim5.
I made an upgrade to windows 2003 and afther few days I had some troubles with my pocket pc reactivity (I mean it frequently freezed), so I made a hard reset but since that moment, when I switch on the device, the windows mobile 2003 introduction starts and stop to the align screen page (going in a continuous loop).
Does somebody knows how to help me???
I tried pretty everything like flashing the rom, following any sort of procedure here-above described, but nothing happened...
I'm so frustrated about that, please help me...
Many thank's from Italy.

Are you using a screen protector?
If so, try removing it as it may be pushing at the screen near the edge.

No actually I'm not using a screen protector...
Anyway I'm quite sure the touch screen works, infact when I point at the "cross" that appears in screen align page (windows mobile intro first page), the cross is reactive to my pression, the only problem is that at the end of the screen align procedure it starts again and again...
Since I had this problem I flashed my axim twice or maybe more, according to the procedure here above, but after some perfect flashing and cf card rebooting nothing changed.

Ciao Nico, grazie mille ma, scusa l'ignoranza, che intendi per "in PM"?
