SD memory card

I need extra memory in my Axim. I'm planning to buy a SD-memory card. I have basically 2 questions:

1. Is there a maximum memory size for the SD-card? I know of some hardware where there is a maximum. On the dell site you can only buy up to 256 Mb, I'm looking at 512 Mb or even 1 Gb.

2. Ultra II SD-cards are supposed to be quicker then the normal SD-cards, is this true in an Axim X5?

The CF-slot is in use by a GPS module so this is not an option. I need lots of memory to store map-data, including, satelite-images and terrain models (think 10's of MB). Since the application I'm using offers moving map display I want this memory to be fast.

Thanx

Welcome to aximsite, vliegerke!

Lots of members, me included, use 512s, and I have heard (although I have not tried it myself) of folks using 1 gig SD cards without incident.

ok, next question

Memory size is not a problem, appaerantly.

When I look at the specificiations of the Ultra II cards they promise a higher speed of data (as well read and write). Will this help the performance of my Axim? I suppose the Axim has to be compatibel with these to profit of the speed.

These Ultra II cards are more expensive then the normal SD-cards. If they are really faster I want to spend to money, otherwise I will buy a bigger SD-card.

Thanx,

Joeri.

I would go with a bigger card over the Ultra II cards. You will not notice the speed increase unless you are transferring a large file, and that is only when you are putting things on/off the card.

What about listening to music sitting on the card?

I use regular old slow sd cards to listen to music (mostly .wmas), and experience no slowdowns or skips or problems with their use.
