Can't get Scandisk 128 to Work

I just got my Axim with a 128 MB card from Dell. There are no instructions! I put it in the slot. When I go to Systems/Settings/ Memory/ Storage Card, it only shows the "Built-in Storage."

Is there something you have to do to get the Axim to recognize it?

And it seems mostof the complaints on this board are on the 256 MB card. Hope the 128 card is not that bad!!!

Appreciate the help.

Did you tap on the Built-In storage to see if there was another option in that drop down box? The default is Built-In, but the CF and SD cards are in the drop down.

There is no other storage devices in the drop down list. Only the built in storage.

The SD card will install with the metal tabs facing away from you when you insert it. The cut-off corner will be towards the bottom of the unit.
Press the card into the slot until it clicks into place. It will be flush with the housing when properly installed.
The Axim will turn on when a card is installed or removed, showing that it is recognized.

Is it a CF or SD card? Do you have any other device that the card will fit into to test it (camera, reader)?

Thanks for the help. It is an SD card. It looks like my card is working after all. I was able to copy a file to it.

Question: How do you access info about the card - like the amount of free space left?

Click start > settings
Then select the system tab
click the memory icon
click the storage card tab
select your SD card from the drop down box

Patrick - this is the issue that started this thread. When I do as you say, the drop down box only shows "Built-in Storage" with 5.62 MB total and 2.16 in use. My card is installed and I can cut and paste files to it so I know it is working.

Just can't get any info on it. Does it work for you???

Try a soft reset. If that doesn't work, take the card out and re-insert it. To get it out, push it in just a bit until it clicks, then it will come out part way and you can grab the edge and pull it completely out.

Yes, it works fine for me. I actually have both a CF card and a SD card in at the same time. The drop down box shows all three (CF SD and Built In storage).

ChuckInIdaho - I have the exact same issue you described with a new Sandisk 256 SD card. No matter what I do, I can't get the Axim to recognize it. How did you copy files to it if it doesn't show up in the drop down boxes anywhere?

I had the card in a USB reader and my computer crashed. Could it need to be reformatted or something? If so, what's the simplest way to do that?

After a week of trying to get my 128 SD card to work, I removed the main battery and then put the battery back in. AND for some reason the SD is working fine now!!! I reported what happened to Dell via email.

It's hard to believe there is a bug that would caues that, but I'd be interested if anyone else can duplicate this fix.

If so we should do a new post titled "SD Card / Battery Issue.

I don't know anything about formatting the card.

Nope. Taking the battery pack off didn't fix the problem. I tried a 64MB card and its working fine. I'm going to take the 256 MB card back.
