Restore cannot be completed successfully, please help!

Hey there Aximsite...I need some help if anyone can offer any...

My Axim X5 running Pocket PC Version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100) decided to have a battery problem and died. Battery has since been fixed and I would like to perform my system 'Restore'. When I select 'Tools' - 'Backup/Restore' - 'Restore' - 'Restore Now' inside Activesync, I get a DEVICE MISMATCH error which states the following:

"Restore cannot be completed successfully. The selected backup file was created from a different type of mobile device. For more information about possible causes and solutions to this error message, click Help."

It would be impossible for me to have a 'device mismatch'. I have only owned one (1) Pocket PC. This Axim. Anyone know what I can do to solve this issue? Any and all suggestions are MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

Did you make sure the device ID on your Axim is the same as the one on ActiveSync restore file?

As in 'Pocket_PC' in the Device ID area of the Settings menu?

Have you set your regional settings to the same as they where when the backup was made? You need them to be the same or you get an error like this

Yes, I'm pretty sure I have the same Regional settings. I never really touched those...

Well thanks to those who posted, I appreciate the tips. Unfortunately, I am unable to get my 'Backup.stg' file to believe that it was indeed generated by the same unit I am trying to backup. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Activesync, hard-reset a handful of times and made multiple copies of the device ID profiles trying to think of what name other than 'Pocket_PC' could have been in use. Tricky. Frustrating. I am still accepting any last minute advice for anyone willing to offer it... :rolling:

On the PC, with the device NOT connected, open Activesync and File/Mobile Device. All partnerships should show. If the name of the "new" device is the same, there should only be one. If two exist, the other might be what it was before the problem.

Just tried that and it shows 2 partnerships. I have tried both with no success. Thanks, I actually didn't know about your suggestion. I am rebuilding now and re-installing everything now too. Let this be a lesson for all, BACKUP AND RESTORE OFTEN (and with a device ID you know...)
