Mad Very disappointed

After continuing problem with a non-functioning screen (wouldn't respond to any touch), I called Dell. For a short time, running a business card between the screen and the unit would render the screen operational, but for a short period of time. After contacting Dell again, their only suggestion was to buy a new unit. My "original" AximX5 was only 18 months old. To add insult to injury, I had to purchase all the accessories- cradle, power supply. I now have over $700 invested in Dell Axim hardware. Incidentally, I have NEVER been contacted by Dell- POOR customer relations.

The old one may able to be repaired. Search this site for "Mylar" and read the thread for the fix various folks have found and used. If you get it going again, you can sell one of them on Ebay.

I'm a little confused, so correct me if I'm wrong. The reason I'm assuming that they told you that you would need to buy a new one is because your Axim is out of warranty. So, since Dell does not repair them, that would be their response, which is normal.

Anyhow, check out the thread that Jake pointed you to. Also, you can purchase a replacement digitizer for the X5 for a nominal amount. Again to concur with Jake, I would get it repaired, and sell it on eBay, and include the accessories with it so you can recoup some of your loss.

Just remember that you have some good options here . . .

BTW, do you have a screen protector on your Axim?

Are you expecting them to call you out of the blue? I'm not sure what you mean by that....

I had contacted Dell on a number of occasions about this problem. On the last call, The technician I spoke with was very apologetic about the continuing problem, and my need to purchase accessories that were redundant.
I was assured that Dell would be calling me.
Perhaps I'm being unrealistic, but the lack of durability on the Axim is not what I expected with a Dell product.

Well, I've had my Dell Axim X5 for almost two years, with no problems at all. That is, for a device that I carry with me everywhere, pretty durable.
