HELP! Phantom emails in my Inbox won't go away!!!

This is the 2nd post from a month ago on this matter, still no replies to the first...so I'd like to try again.... For about the past month, I've had about 20 "phantom" items in my Dell's Inbox (they were real emails at one time, but somehow got moved/mis-sync'd awhile back...). I call them phantoms because although I can still see the title of the emails in my Axim's Inbox, they have no icon next to them and I can't delete them, open them, forward them or do anything with them!!! Whenever i sync, my real emails simply appear above the string of these 20 phantom emails. Although the real emails behave normally, these phantoms are driving me crazy!!!
How can I gt rid of these things....an excorcism????

One thing I did try, I actually found the real emails on my PC (those which were related to the phantoms, twins I call'em....) and I tried to re-sync them. Well, it treated like a regular syncing email, totally ignoring the phantom twin
Anyway, it's morning now and still no replies.... I'm still hoping someone can help..please???
signing off-
Dave

Ok, try this:

1. Un-check the Inbox from ActiveSync and let it remove the emails from your X5.
2. After it's done, use File Explorer, or something similar, and navigate to \Windows\Messaging on the X5, delete the files in there and see if that solves the problem.
3. If it's fixed, go back to ActiveSync and re-select the Inbox.

Well, I gave it the old college try.....

Gary-
Thanks, I tried it but to no avail. The phantom emails were still there...and now after I sync'd with the Inbox checked, when I open any of my emails (even the "good" ones), there is no text included!!! YIKES!! Lucklily I backed things up.....
Anyway, I think you are on the right track, though. There's obvisouly some vestige of these emails being stored somewhere in my Axim (possibly the database files???), but I have no idea.
Thank you again for getting back to me on this.....I think I need someone that is fluent in Pocket PC file setup language, although any other ideas will be appreciated....

I had the same problem. I used Sprite Backup (free trial available) and did a selective backup without the contents of Inbox. Then I did a hard reset and restored the backup without the phantom emails.

Granite...I had sprite installed, but I'm having some trouble with it. After I strat running it, I went right to options to do selective backup. After it scans the PDA's File System, it lists the applicable portions of backup to include or exclude. After deselecting the inbox mail, I hit backup (I have a empty 256 sd card , so there's plenty of room). However, as soon as the process starts, it says "Stopping Processes" and then hangs at 12 seconds. On two attempts, the screens actually went "snowy" and I needed to do a soft reset :rolling: .
Any ideas?

I'm stumped. Maybe try contacting Sprite Software for help?
