stupid battery question

Is the backup battery rechargeable?

When does the Axim decide to use the backup rather than the main one? I have never really used the Axim for extended periods of time without a serious charge, but notice my backup is down to 80% already after less than two weeks. Is this normal?

The backup is only used when the main is totally depleted or removed, and then all it does is preserve the RAM for you. It is NOT rechargeable.

A lot of us saw that flucation you mentioned. If you soft reset, it will pop back up to 100%. It turns out the circuit that senses the battery is very sensitive. A .01v drop will cause the battery to drop 10-20%. That kind of drop comes from just temperature changes.

I replaced my backup battery with a new one ($3) and it has never reported less than 100% since.

No. The little nickle size battery is a one charge battery.

There has been talk of the BU battery going down. I think most people found that the reading from that battery fluctuates. It is used for when switching main batteries to keep things in memory and settings.

If you find that it continually drops and does not vary, you may want to see what Dell Tech says and see if they want to replace it.

That soft reboot did indeed bring it back up to 100%

Thanks
