I think you are the first return "customer". Up till now I was hoping that once it was fixed it was fixed.
What I don't understand is how it can happen gradually(same thing happened with me). I have continued to look out there and have not seen anything short of a hard reset to fix this. Or should I say: "temporarily fix this"

I use Agenda Plus, but not the full Fusion part (I just want the 7-day view). I never had a problem with it on the ipaq.
How about the dell keyboard as a culprit? After my hard reset and restore from old backup, the keyboard driver is the only thing that I had to load.

Problem is solved......................really!!
First of all do you have Resco Picture Viewer?? If so that is the problem.
Follow these instructs to sync every time..........
"Viewed 49 times
I found this fix on the Microsoft site in their user forum:
1) Remove the file named "picViewSync.dat" (If you have it) in the windows
directory on the pocket PC
2) Perform a soft reset
3) Synchronize again
If you're nervous, as I was, about deleting a system file like this, cut/paste it into your temp folder rather than deleting it. I'm now fully synchronized for the first time in days. "
I have dumped Resco Pic Viewer, because I have ACDsee, and I sync every time.
Man am I happy...........................................

Wow...this really works! I'm not sure why I have been able to sync before though since I've had Resco Picture viewer installed since the beginning. Course I have been viewing pictures off a CF card that I took via the card on my digital camera. Anyhow, I tried everything else (except a hard reset) and this worked first time!

That sounds like it might be it! In fact, I had used my resco picture viewer to access pictures on my microdrive between the time I seemed to be cured, and the time I saw the error again. I deleted the picviewsync.dat file, and so far, so good. That would also explain why axim users have the most problem, since resco picture viewer came with the axim. Go forum members!

I don't know what kind of warped, twisted mind would think of a picture viewer file when getting an error message about Appointments, but whatever you're doning, keep doing it! ;)Thanks loads. I'm sure the bruises on my forehead from banging will heal real soon.

Thank you Ephex Double!!!
Thank you ephex double!! I have sat on the phone with Dell Technical Support for over 3 hours with NO solution! I've tried numerous other web sites, including CEWindows.net to absolutely no avail. It didn't make sense that is was a problem with ActiveSync because I stared have this problem on both my home computer and my work computer at the same time. Since the Dell Axim comes with Resco Picture Viewer included, we all have this file installed. I removed it and instantly was able to sync again for the 1st time in over 2 weeks!! Thank you!! You are the man!!

You really are the greatest! This is the first day I used this site...and I'm able to sync again! What is ACDsee? I guess I'll have to get something other than Resco Picture Viewer!! Thanks for the help!

Solution to "out-of-date appointments" error
Many of us with the new Dell Axim X5 have started getting an error message while syncing that says, "There was no response from your mobile device while checking for out-of-date appointments." We have tried updating bios, re- installing ActiveSync, hard re-sets, you name it!, to no avail. Recently we found the solution!! Somehow there is a confict with a file used by Resco Picture Viewer, which comes installed on the Axim X5, and ActiveSync. To fix the problem we had to do the following:
1) Remove the file named "picViewSync.dat" in the windows directory on the pocket PC
2) Perform a soft reset
3) Synchronize again
I did this and immediately was able to sync for the first time in over 2 weeks! If you are worried about deleting a system file, simply cut and paste it to your "temp" file to test this solution. It has completely solved the problem for everyone that I have talked to.

I have spoken to dell about this problem and they told me it's because I have "palm" software installed on my PC and activesync and that I need to delete my palm software to eliminate the problem...which I cannot do because my wife uses the palm. does anyone else have this problem and have the palm stuff on their PC?

Now, that's just plain bizarre. Palm software will not run on the Axim, at all, so it cannot be the cause of the problem. Could it be that what they meant was that because your wife syncs from the Palm to Outlook that it cannot sync to your Axim? If so, they are still wrong. The offending file comes from the software Dell sent on the CDROM to view pictures. If you use Rescoe to view pictures the picViewSync.dat file gets created and then the Activesync problem crops up. Deleting the file just means that the next time you use Rescoe it has to re-create the file by finding all the pictures again. The problem is between Rescoe and the M$ Activesync.

Does this mean that once we have deleted the "picViewSync.dat" file that the picture viewer will no longer work? I hadn't tried the viewer since I deleted that file and thought I would probably have to get a different picture viewer. I know that the Picture Viewer still shows on the Axim and my pictures are still there. I sure don't want to start having that sync problem again. Thanks for your help.

You can still use Resco Picture Viewer but....
You can still use Resco Picture Viewer after deleting "picViewSync.dat" from the windows directory of your Pocket PC, but know that the program will re-create the file and you may experience the problem again in the future. If you do, delete the file again.
I have been in contact with Resco regarding the conflict and they are working on an update that should correct the problem. No word yet and when the update will be available.

Thank you very much E.D.! This has been a great help to many of us Aximsite members, and we truly appreciate your efforts to find and share this solution.
I know some Support Professionals at Microsoft, and will see if I can't get them to write a Knowledge Base article addressing this issue so that it will be a little easier for others to find this resolution.

Fix from Resco???
I sent a message off to Resco and here is their reply:
We do prepare new version of Resco Picture Viewer (still we don’t release it) But you can use New version of Picture Viewer Sync module http://www.resco-net.com/downloads/PicViewSync_p.exe Please make this link available for those, who need it (it is for free)
Hope it helps.
No problems for me (Yet)

Thanks ephex double!! Your solution definitely makes you the man for those of us who have had this problem. I'm reposting your solution with some additional instructions for our friends who might be new to deleting things off their Axims.
Solution by ephex double :
1) First you need to get to your My Computer window so you get a listing of your drives and Mobile Device.
2) Double-click on Mobile Device.
3) Double-click on My Pocket PC.
4) Double-click on the Windows folder.
5) Right-click on picViewSync.dat and EITHER delete or rename it. (I renamed it, just in case I needed that file.)
6) Soft-reset the Axim (press the button under record, please refer to your documentation or other posts for details).
ActiveSync should now be able to synchronize your Axim.
Again, many thanks to ephex double for this solution.
