out-of-date appointments error message

There's been a thread on the newbies forum about this, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this and can help. I (and it sounds like several others) have been getting this error when trying to sync:

There was no response from your mobile device while checking out-of-date appointments.
Disconnect your device and try again. If problem persists, reset your device according to your manufacturer's documentation and sync again.

I have already tried to look at wcesmgr.log and outstore.log as suggested, and I have scanned my outlook.pst file with scanpst.exe without finding any corrupted file. Others have stated that they have only been able to sync by a hard reset or re-installing active sync to the PC. The problem always comes back again after doing one of these things.

One person seemed to mention the USB connection (with an integrated USB port on the PC being problematic).

Does anyone have any ideas of what is going wrong and how to fix it? Is anyone else having this problem? Do any other pocket pc's have this problem? I never had it on my IPAQ.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm having the exact same problem. Been having it for a few weeks now. It started off only doing it every once in a while. I would just disconnect the cable and try again like AcitveSync suggested and it would work. Now it does it everytime on my home computer and my work computer. The only way I can get it to work is to delete my partnership and create a new one.

I've seached about everywhere for info on what is causing this to no avail. Until now I couldn't even find another person who suffered the same problem. And its not just the out of date appointments. I changed the setting to just sync my favorites in case it was an Outlook problem but the same thing happens and says it cannot retrieve any info about my favorites. THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!!! My girlfriend has the same exact Axim and hers has never done it once. Anyone that has figured this out PLEASE help as it is the only thing I absolutely cant STAND about my Axim. Thanks in advance and sorry about the ranting but it felt soooo good :D

we are not alone

I went searching on the forums of pocket pc passion and brighthand, and many pocket pc users are having this problem, including people with pocket pc's other than the axim. Seems to be an active sync problem. I have not found a solution yet, other than re-installing active sync and re-doing the partnership. I'm getting ready to do a hard reset and restore probably. Some people seem to think having a wireless network can be the problem.

Anyone who knows what to do - tell us please!!

I finally experienced this for the first time last nite. I ended up just rebooting the PC and it has been working since. I would suggest doing this, than reinstalling Active Sync. Haven't seen it since. Hopefully this is the only time it will happen.

Hopefully this helps.

Yeah thats what I did in the beginning. I've must have reinstalled both Activesync 3.5 and 3.6 about 15 times and it always works in the beginning but the problem comes back. Sometimes I can still get it to work but only after disconnecting and reconnecting about 20-30 times. I have a feeling it has to do with my Axim and not activesync or maybe both because how can it happen on my home and my work computer? Ones running win98 SE and the other is Win2K. And on both I have tried AS 3.5 and 3.6 multiple times but it always ends up doing the same thing. And the thing that gets me is that it is obliviously connecting to the Axim since it can ask for the passcode and let me explore it. I'm just out of ideas.

something that doesn't work

Well tonight I re-installed Active Sync, hard reset my pocket PC, restored from a file that I backed up a few days ago (one of the times I got it to sync by re-installing Active Sync), and... nothing. Still got the error message the 2nd time I put it in the cradle. Looks like the next thing will be to do the same but restore a backup from January, when, hopefully, I wasn't having this problem. Unfortunately, I can't remember what programs I've loaded since January. Hopefully not a lot.

Oh yeah, we have a home wireless network, so first I turned off our main desktop and unplugged the router - still no luck. So it doesn't seem to be the network that is causing the problem. Also, my husband's IPAQ syncs just fine with the same Outlook file.

Do people having this problem have a microdrive or a Dell keyboard by chance? Wondering if either of these could be causing the interference.

Have you tried syncing without restoring your backup? If it still does it then it might be an axim problem. I'll give it a try as well.

fixed?

Well, this is the only way I could fix this (seemingly). I hard reset and restored to a backup from before this was happening. Luckily I had a very complete backup. Someone else on one of the other forums who had this problem solved it the same way. Let's see how long this holds.

BTW, I tried to remove my microdrive but that didn't affect anything. I tried to create a new activesync partnership without success. (I couldn't rename my partnership though). I tried disconnecting from my wireless network without success. Hard reset seems to be the only way to go.

Has anyone used the Beta Landware Quicken program?
What about Franklin Covey?

Something has to be causing this....

I was not using either of those programs. Between the backup that seems to work and when I had the problem, the only thing I seem to have installed is the Dell keyboard driver. I have re-installed the keyboard driver - we'll see if it breaks down again.

Well I hope that fixes it. How many times have you synced now that you did the hard reset? Before you did the hard reset, had you tried just deleting your partership and creating a new one with the same name? Thats what I do but it only seems to work once on mine. I'm going to try a hard reset tonight and I'll let you know the outcome. Good luck.

i just synchronized

It's amazing how happy I am about being able to do this very basic pocket pc function. Microsoft can really make one lower one's standards. I have sync'd about 6 times since the hard reset and restore to old backup. Seems to be holding. Lesson: frequent backups are very important.

I had tried removing active sync, re-installing, creating new partnership with same name. Just like you, I could sync once, but then the error returned. Must be some file on the pocket pc that gets corrupted, and if you hard reset but restore to a recent backup that has that corrupted file as part of it, the problem returns.

Congrats!! Ahhhhh the feeling of being able to sync on the first try!!!!

Get this!! Right after I replied last time, I went ahead and did a "Data Backup" on my Dell to my SD card since I could do the backup through ActiveStink! So then right before I was to do a hard reset, I said "what the hell, I'll give it one more try". So I connect it just as usually and the damned thing syncs. Well must be a fluke right?!?! Well I've must have synced at least 10 times now and no problem. I think I scared my Axim by threatening it with a "Hard" reset. I guess you just need to show it whos boss :p

Well let us know if you have any more troubles with syncing (knock on wood )

Well, I tried showing it who was boss by stepping on it and throwing it against the wall! That didn't work either.

I thought we hit on something because I started having problems when I installed the driver for the Dell keyboard or shortly there after. But I removed the program, no sync, reloaded it, no sync

There has to be a solution besides a total hard reset!?!?! That can only be a temporary solution in my mind...

I am tired of not syncing....6 days and counting.
