Linksys WCF12 Help?

Hey guys,

Bought a Linksys WCF12 on the weekend and have been trying to get it to work with my Axim. I loaded the latest drivers off the website and such, but whenever I insert the card into my Axim the LINK light just keeps flashing and no matter what I do I can't find any base stations at all. I took the card and my Axim to work today where we have a lot of 802.11b equipment. Tried connecting it to a base station, a Mac with the Airport card configured as a software base station, etc but nothing. It wouldn't connect when I enter the SSID manually and such, and won't find any of the APs in the configuration utility either.

Another thing, when I slightly move the card in the CF (like, just tap it) the LINK light stops flashing and goes solid, but my Axim crashes! What the heck is going on here...

Am I doing something wrong? Is the card defective? I have no idea what's normal and not normal with this thing. It'd be really nice to be able to use this thing for sniffing around town :)

WCF12 Causes System Hang

I'm having problems with mine too.

It worked fine for several weeks. However, within the past day or so, it is not recognized by the Axim when I install it.

When I re-insert the card, it sometimes is recognized and actually works, but this is happening less and less often.

I am thinking that I need just go out and get a NetGear CF card instead.

Ideas?

Kelly

I have no problems with mine at all.

I cant recall if I have the latest drivers or not. Maybe downgrading your drivers to what came on the CD will help.

The light goes solid when its got a connection. Maybe there is a bent pin or a loose connection within the CF card.

I ordered and received the WCF-12 this past week. The card worked fine for about 20 min. then started acting up, as if there was a bad connection between the Axim and the card. Pressing the card down in the slot worked briefly, but not for long. The Axim sometimes locked up and finally the card would not even show a green light, blinking or otherwise.

Spent some qualilty time with tech support at Linksys and we finally decided that it was a bad card. The card does warm up a bit when it's used and a marginal internal connection was probably failing over time.

Got the replacement card yesterday from eCost.com and it works great, no problems. Interestingly, the first card (bad) was very tight and tricky to insert in the Axim's CF slot but the replacement (good) slipped right in and fits like the other CF cards I have.

If you think you have a bad card, you may be right. Ask for a replacement.
