Worried SD card memory loss

I was having trouble with my SD card it said it was read only so I went to see what was wrong with it and nothing showed up on the explore on the computer or pcc . Soon after it gave me a pop up telling me that I needed to format it to get it working so I formatted and now there is only 240 mb from the original 256. What can I do to get back the memory? Are there still files on it?
thanks . :)

Let me guess, you have a Sandisk card?

Secondly as for the actual usable space on a 256 SD check out this thread put up on this site earlier in the day.

Is there something wrong with Sandisk cards? They seem to work ok for me.

You didn't hear about the major problems people are having with Sandisk cards? You're lucky.

Were the troubles with SD or CF also? My Axim came with a SanDisk CF card.

The problems I've seen posted are only the Sandisk 128 & 256 MB SD cards.
