To remedy the problem I simply inserted a very small piece of foam padding between the backup battery cover and the top of the backup battery. This applies a small amount of downward pressure on the battery helping maintain a good contact. Since doing this, I have not had any problems with the battery reporting 0%.

I had, and still have the problem of an empty (0%) half (50%) after reset (100%) and back again to a lower value.
I once already opened the battery compartment to check out the compatment and battery itself, but didn't notice anything strange.
After putting back the battery and close the compartment it again was 100% and later that day again lower, about 40, or 36%
Now I just did again a reset. Its up to 72% Before the reset it was 40% Very strange. CPU is now running on "Powersafe"
But seeing that the backup battery is not used when the main battery is used, the CPU speed will have no effect on the backup battery.
Now I just red the battery its was still "good" put it back and again its up to 100%
I will try out the above tip. Thanks.
Nevertheless, it is strange a "rotten" battery compatment or battery contacts for the money paid ($270)
Strange things those DELL's;)
Peace,
Henk
