I've tried using the navigator button as an action button (pushing it in)
like on the iPAQ, but it doesn't work. Is it broken or is it made that way?
You know, life seems to go so smoothly that you think nothing can go wrong and you're on top of the world......and then they send your SAT scores!!!!

That's the way it is. Too bad Dell didn't make that button with that fifth function. That would've been nice.

Actually it does have a function. If you press the button when the backlight is off it will bring it back on. This would indicate that it is hard wired and maybe there is hope that it can be mapped to 'enter'

The only button that is currently mapped for "ENTER", is when you push the scroll dial in. Dell has stated several times that the Navigation Pad is 4 direction only. They will not confirm not deny if plans are to somehow in the works to make it 5 direction pad.

I just called technical support and was on hold for about an hour and a half before talking to someone. She said that the navigator button is supposed to be used for action and that she did it on hers.

I hope she is right because I wasn't all that sure about her. <_<

I should be getting a new one in a couple of days and I hope everything works on that. Everything works fine on mine right now (although the navigation button isn't great) except for the 5th direction on the navigator button.

I think that the only way to re-map the action Task from the Axim's Scroll dial to the 4-way Navigator button, would be by editing the Registry! I've found post's on other websites on how to change (re-map) the actions of the D-pad on ipaq and Palm's through the registry... but the registry settings on the Axim differ from other PDA's. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Button would seem like an obvious place, but (according to button hacks for other PPC’s) it seems it will be in a less obvious registry tree (With No Mention of the Word “Button” in it). Good Luck!
