Active sync keeps disconnecting...

Greetings all,

My first post here. When I come in in the morning I put my Axim in the USB cradle. It pops up a password, I enter it, then I log in to my Exchange server. It syncs everything fine.

Everything will work OK for a period of time. IE Any new additions or deletions are synced "real-time" to the Axim. After this "period of time" A random period of time Might be 3 minutes, might be 3 hours I hear the "descending" disconnect tone and the AXIM is "offline/disconnected". It is still in the cradle, it is still powered on. Wireless card is still flashing. Activesync icon in systray is gray (not green), and it shows "disconnected. Active sync version is 3.71. BLD 4034.

At first I though ti was something on my PC. But recently (due io other reasons) I had to reformat my PC and rebuild it. I used WIN XP Pro, SP2. It originally had WIN 2000 PRO on it. I still get the same results. The only way to get it back, is to take it out of the cradle and put it back in, or disconnect the USB cable and plug it back in. Then I enter the password and we're off and running again. For a while anyway.

Any thoughts or tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I have pretty much the same problem although I am not using Exchange server. Seems that for no apparent reason ActiveSynce feels that my Axim is no longer in the cradle. I am interested to see if others are having the same issue.

Thanks for the offer of help.

If you mean is "contiuously" checked under the tools/options/schedule tab, then yes it is. If not, where are you referring to?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I meant continuous. Maybe the wi-fi tries to connect to other ap's. Try unchecking "connect to non-preferred networks", or worded something like that.

I have this problem to sometimes, I downloaded this handy re-syncing tool . I keep it on my desktop and double click it if needed. Saves pulling the axim out the cradle everytime:)

Oplaii,

Thanks for the tip, it works great. Not the ultimate solution, but certainly a good work-around. I'd still be interested in hearing from anyone with a permanent solution. Thanks.

Microsoft eventually developing an activesync which works? It's just a buggy app... This happens to me all the time.

I have the same problem with Win2000 on my company laptop. Never had the problem on my home PC with XP Pro SP2. Thought it was just the weird way 2000 works when on a VPN server. Will try the resync tool.

Suddenly I am in the same boat - for no apparent reason or consistency, my 10 month old Axim x3i has started to randomly disconnect from the USB connection. Started happening about 5 days ago with no changes to my PC or Axim. I did a system restore on my PC to an earlier date and restored a backup on the Axim from an earlier date. No good. I am using a Dell cradle in a powered hub but found the same problem if I used a Dell USB cable in a different USB port on the PC. Running Windows XP SP2 with ActiveSync selected as a firewall exception. I have uninstalled and reinstalled ActiveSync 3.7.1. I have checked the USB settings on the PC and made sure the option to disconnect power to them was not checked. On the Axim, I have it set to maintain connection in the ActiveSync settings. Also in the PC ActiveSync settings, I have it set to sync manually. I have changed batteries and checked the connection ports and contacts. I have soft re-set the Axim and rebooted the PC numerous times and re-established partnerships. I am usually able to sync up fine and move files and so forth. Sometimes it will stay connected for hours, sometimes just minutes. Removing the Axim from the cradle and putting it back in re-connects for a random time. I used to be able to cradle the Axim and leave it overnight with no problems. I have searched these forums, Dell forums, and google and tried everything. I can't think of anything I haven't tried. Is there something I am missing? I would hate to exercise my warranty and get a replacement unit unless I absolutely had to. I am open to any suggetions.

I have the exact issue and posted on MSDN, internally MS knows that activesync has serious issues.

I have a similar problem, when I sync it, it syncs fine, but then about 5 seconds later it disconnects. What i do is just set it up as a guest device and it works just fine, but i need to know how to fix it where i can sync it as my device not guest! thx.
