My 2001 Toshiba laptop outfitted with XP is not detecting my Axim via the USB port (using ActiveSync). Dell support tells me I need to upgrade to a 2.0 USB port. Is this really so? Toshiba can't even sell me a converter to upgrade from my 1.1 version to the 2.0 version. Is my Axim really unconnectable to my year-old laptop because my USB port is not the 2.0 version?!
Thanks for any advice.
Peter

I'm having a similar problem with my XP laptop. It just keeps trying to sync, and doesn't stop.

I tried to post before, but it looks like it didn't take -- hope this isn't a duplicate.

Your problem is with ActiveSynch, not USB. There are already plenty of posts. You definately do not need USB 2.0. Whoever said that should be ashamed of themselves.

You definitely do not need USB 2.0 - but do make sure you install the USB driver. Dell has a custom one that you do need to install on XP.

Dell support (got the same guy twice, after long holds, and he talked to his supervisor) definitely should be ashamed of themselves. The responses here prompted me to uninstall and re-install ActiveSync. I did so and it seemed nothing had changed...until I began to log off for the night. Then all of a sudden both my Axim and my laptop started to beep happily and synchronized for the first time without a problem! :D I have had no further trouble synching.

Needless to say, I don't fully understand what the fix was in this case, but am grateful for the responses here that saved me from ignorantly and senselessly hunting down a USB 2.0 upgrade. I'll be back.

I just upgraded my desktop to my XP and it did not immediately recognize my AXIM. I just removed and
re-installed active sync and that fixed the problem.

on a different note-
IS any one out there really familiar with XP? Having trouble viewing .art files -

That's almost funny "You need to upgrade to USB 2.0".....sorry but jeeze. Most of the tech support guys simply have a terminal in front of them with check boxes to fill to search a database...no real tech knowledge. kind of scary isnt it?
