The Dell Tech. screw my Axim up

My d- pad quit working as far as top and right, so I call Dell and we downloaded the patch, r55834.exe file. Man the Axim went haywire. I told the tech that what we did really screw it up and she said OK I'll send you another one. After reading here of owners getting a second handed Axim after 30 days, I told the Tech. that I wanted a new one instead of a old one. She check to see how long how long I had it and she came back and told me that I have had the Axim for over 30 days and that I would half to get a second handed one and I told her no. I will only take a new one, she put me on hold again, and came back and said that I would get A new one. ?, how can I tell if I get the new CPU.

Thanks..

You will have to go into your Axim's explorer and under My Device\My Documents\SysInfo, tap on SysInfo text file and on the second line you will see the CPU: line.

The latest one out on the Axim's are PXA250 C1 stepping. So far I've seen them on 400MHz (Advance) models and not on the 300MHz (Basic) models.

"Second hand" or refurbished Axims will have an orange sticker on the Axim and it will probably say so on the Order processing page under your account on the Dell website.

While determining if you have a new processor could be an indicator there is no guarantee that all new Axims will have the newest X-Scale.

But the company has to notify you (like I said via a sticker) if you are given a refurbished part.

Got my replacement today, and it's the C1 Stepping.....Great. The only thing is that I had to reinstall and copy everything myself.

dude, i got my new axim today also. it's the new c1 stepping however, i have exactly the same problem you had. top and right motion on the d-pad is screwed.

the techie told me that i could have a refurb by monday but that a new one would take 15 days!
i'm positive he was told to say this and am sure it won't take as long as this!

but is your new d-pad OK now?

Yes, the D-Pad is working for now but don't how long it will last. I can feel the different in the left and right. The left feels firmer and that is how the old one started out.

Question Question regarding cpu

In my sysinfo file, my cpu reads B2 Stepping. Is this good or is this a bad thing?

The B2 Stepping is the old processor and I cannot tell no differents in the speed of the new. It's like comparing a 420hp engine and a 425 hp, only a dyno can tell.
