If I remember correctly only Win98 Second Edition (SE) has USB support. Try going to Microsoft and getting the lastest service pack for Win98...

If I had a laptop with WIN 98 and a 2 gig drive, I would tell my significant other that I needed a new laptop.
The world may not be perfect yet, but the Axim is (almost).

Right click on My Computer, click on Properties. On the following title screen, in the upper right it will say what version of 98 you have. If you dont see Second Edition just under Windows 98 then your USB support is flaky at best. Also be sure to click on the Device Manager tab while you are there, look at the last thing listed and see if you see the USB listings. If you don't then it's possible that your USB controller is turned off in the bios however this is unlikely in a laptop but you never know. The above suggestion is your best bet (Windows Update). You can also go to the laptop manufacturers website and see if they have any patches for you model/OS. This kind of stuff I see all the time, especially right after Christmas. Parents buy some new tech toy for their kids and their 10 year old 486....whew...

hope this helps,
shane
