Activesync and the Inbox

I have an issue when sysncing my Axim. inorder for my POP3 email accts to sysnc with my PDA I have to have Outlook open at the time of syncing. No when I had my previous PDA an Philips Nino 500 it would sysnc my inbox with or without outlook open. I use ActiveSync 3.5 just as I am with the Axim, infact I just upgraded to 3.6 to see if that fixed it. it did not. Is it a setting I need to do? I have looked in activeSync and in outlook. Did not find any clues. The big reason I dont want to have to open Outlook to sysnc is I have my computer system set up to power up at a certain time in the morning so as when i am leaving the house the Axim is all synced and ready to go.

Any Ideas?

Tim

Hmm It ain't a "fix" but...

The problem isn't with Active Sync as far as I can see.

AFAIK, Active Sync does not actually open Outlook to Sync Inbox(es), just pulls from the file store. Outlook has to actually POP in and download your email to the file-store before AS can sync it.

But I may be wrong. Since I always have Outlook open (or recently opened/closed) before I sync, I have never chanced to look.

Anyway, unless you use secure/multiple-user logins, if you put a shortcut to Outlook in your Startup directory, it will open Outlook on boot, Outlook will POP, then AS can grab whatever data it wants when Outlook is done grabbing mail. You can always close Outlook when you leave.

ActiveSync actually is running outlook, only in the background. normally, if you close outlook and start ActiveSync, you will see outlook.exe listed in the Processes list in Task Manager.

Timdjohn, have you made any recent changes/upgrades to outlook? or any 3rd party outlook add-ins?
