That sucks. I just got my replacement and have not had a chance to test the d-pad yet. I am hoping this one is ok.

Possible fix (help) from one of the other sites....

Go to start - settings - buttons - up/down control - and set "Repeat Rate" down to 0. (Closest to SLOW)

My DPad was OK before (Pacman on NES was hard to control and a few times it would get stuck)...

But so far (knock on old PDAs), it's been MUCH better, especially the control. I'm not any better at Pacman, but it's not longer the Axim's fault!! :D

And as for the problem being the location of the button, as long as it's not making contact, it might (might) just be cosmetic... When I was having it get stuck, I've had it get stuck going left, which has the most clearence.... Might be a red herring...

Not sure if this is a hardware or software issue so I will start in this topic and see what develops. I have been playing Age of Empires (love that game!). Anyway, when using the dpad to move around the map it seems to get "stuck". I can move around the screen but when the pad is released it takes me all the way to the top of the map and stays there. This is the only game I have used this button for so far. How do I determine if it is a hardware or software problem?
Unfortunately this is a harware problem. I had the same issue with both the 400 Mhz and 300 Mhz model (returned both for a refund). For the price you really cant beat the Axim and Dell will eventually work this out if they haven't done so already. I just couln't wait and ended up getting the iPAQ 1910 which I am very happy with. The Axim blows the iPAQ away as far as performance thou.

I thought I would chime in and let you know that I believe the D-Pad problem is resolved. I had a D-pad the looked just like Gordy's above. I called yesterday afternoon and they shipped me a new one. I had it in my hands at 9 am this morning all is well with the new one!

i haven't got my dell yet to really know, but i've been spending a lot of time with at the dell kiosk at the local mall playing with their dell. The device there has a lot of problems with the d-pad. Up or right pretty much does not work at all. The transcriber software is terrible too, but thats a different matter.

I also think I may have a problem. On your original Axim did the D-Pad seem to "float" across its opening in the case and not really click into position when pressed? I haven't gotten it stuck yet, but it does seem to have to be pressed a lot in to work when pressing upwards. Is this what you had? Would you mind describing your problem to me? I am not sure if I want to get a replacement now, when Dell still seems to be having hardware issues, or later, when they have everything ironed out, or at all. Thanks.

If it makes any difference I have a 400mhz model Axim.
