Thumb button activating

The big button on the bottom front of the Axim continues to stick in an activated position. It moves freely, but does not alway disengage when moved. It is a pain since it constantly scrolls and moves about and will not allow me to use the touch screen function.

Is there a way to diable the button, or just take it out without ruining the PDA? or anyone have any other suggestions?

Start, Settings, Navigator Button (there's an option to enable/disable the center d-pad response).
