connecting to wifi

Hi, i have bought a wifi card for my x5 and have found some hotspots with it, such as mcdonalds, starbucks etc. please can anyone tell me how i actually connect to a network such as tmobile (the network which appears when i'm in starbucks.) to then allow me to purchase credit or log in.?

When i sign onto internet explorer it just gives me the old offline pages i had from my last time I connected to my desktop via activesync.

Any help on how to connect wirelessly would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks

First off

...check out www.wifi.aximsite.com for one of the best descriptions of how to do most things wireless with the Axims. However, don't confuse WiFi with wireless phone service. It's possible that T-Mobile is providing the trunk access and WiFi access point at Starbucks, but generally they are a cellphone carrier. Connecting via a cellphone is a whole new ballgame and would require you to have, typically, a Bluetooth card for your Axim in order to use your cellphone as a modem, of sorts. Higher end PDAs have BT built-in and still others have cell technology included, as well, making them able to access most forms of wireless communication (given you've paid for the appropriate service, of course).

The short answer is yes. You can sign up for the T-Mobile service through the network at the Starbucks. You do not need to create an account before going out and about. When you try to connect to their service, you will be given a link to create the account. I can't remember whereit is on the page, but it is there.

PS- if you walk two doors down, you will probably find an open network anyway.

Like at airports

At many airports you can walk in and your wifi card will detect a connection. When you gain a connection, you bring up your Pocket Internet Explorer and enter their website (some places will automatically push their primary page to you no matter what website you enter). Usually there are instructions on the page for entering credit card info to pay for by-the-minute access.

If the folks at Starbuck's are telling you the website, then, yes, just enter that when you bring up your Internet Explorer. Follow the instructions on the page.

As RobertCF pointed out, the Starbucks folks force you right to the webpage with the signup info. Can't miss it, can't get past it.
