Does anyone know if the sync cable alone tries to charge the axim battery? Two nights in a row now my laptop has died way before it should have. Last night i was using it to reload a few games from ram to flash card. Tonight i was reading these forums and got to the one about internet and passthrough. I tried it (it worked :D (but I do agree with question of why when you are connected with computer)). I had been reading forum for awhile and battery was on 48% remaining. I connected Axim and it lasted a whole 5 minutes. 0% battery. Just happen to think maybe it was trying to charge itself through the sync cable. I leave my power supply for laptop at work till the weekend along with the Axim's cradle.
Any ideas out there?

little confuse, i am assuming you are just using a sync cable with your laptop and your axim or laptop battery dies quickly and you want to know if the sync cable charges your axim. To the best of my knowledge No, the sync cable does not charge the axim. as far as batteries dying quickly, just think about what you are doing with you axim, connecting to the internet, syncing, etc. the battery is bound to die quicker. As far as your laptop same thing, it is continously reading that USB, it is bound to die quicker too.

It's the laptop battery that dies. Other than that everthing's fine. guess i will have to see about ordering an extra power cord for axim to keep at home. The way i have my arrangement setup now I guess the Axim is not as "wireless" as i would like. Don't really want to carry everything back and forth to work everyday, just in case i want to play with axim at home during the week(synching stuff that is). I just happen to hit upon the symptoms because i was reading email and surfing the web the second night and i decided to hook up the axim to try the internet out on it and then there goes the power a few minutes later. Surfed for over an hour before that. See my previous post for the %'s i was at. Oh well, on to the next experiment - Movies on my X5.

While you have the laptop and axim conected together and surfing, take a moment to check the battery status on the axim. does it tell you it is being charged, or depleted?

connecting usb devices will use extra power of the laptop because of the communication going on. Even just having PCMCIA cards in your laptop will use power, whether or not you are actually using them.

i have a microsoft optical mouse, and it is only usb connected, so the power is coming from somewhere. :)

i pop out or stop unused PCMCIA devices in the taskbar when i am trying to conserve battery power.
