I'm in total shock.. My pda slipped off the dresser this morning and fell with the screen up, and so it turns on and I see the Dell Logo, then it tells me to Tap to Set up WM2003...
What the Hell??
I had a fully charged battery and Backup battery?
Lets just put it this way,
I would rather it hard reset than not work at all.
I would say you are luckey if anything...
It's not the heighth, it's the G Forces upon impact.
Which has a lot to do with the landing medium.
......in your case, the floor. Usually hard, but even carpeted,
if it hits at the right angle, the impact can have enough
"shock value" to drive the G Forces pretty high.
Even from relatively low/short drops.

Its not the fall that does the damage.....
.... It's the sudden stop at the bottom

Doesn't really matter how well it was treated, if you use a pocket pc you can expect that a hard reset will happen at some point, usually at the worst possible time. This is why I can't stress enough that you need to backup regularly! I have had them from trying out programs, from tweaking the registry a little too much and at least twice I have performed a soft reset which turned into a hard reset.

. HERE's how I have my Sprite Premium configured.
In my BIS I only have a most basic backup. Just enough to get my Axim back in a useable state, for me. If I were to have to use the OEM Configuration of the Axim......I would have to revert back to Complete Newbie Stage. I have no idea how to navigate in an OEM PPC Configuration.
My "Basic Configuration" contains User Info, SnoopSoft DashBoard (configured) and GigaBar (configured). These are the changes to the OEM Config that I have used on every PPC I've owned. Like I said, without them......I AM Lost! So I know I can always get back to something I can use, but since I rarely remove my SD Card, should I need to, I can always go back one or two days for a Restore.
And I copy my SD Card (via a card reader), to my PC and Laptop once a week.
Never had to use it yet, on my X5 400/A04. But just happy to know it's there if I need it.
There's one item no one has mentioned yet... the PPC's nocturnal "midnight wake-up".
Was your X5 fully charged the night before? You'll find the PPC will turn on at midnight many evenings, usually only for a minute or two, but if there is anything that prevents it from shutting down you can and up with a dead battery.
