You can format your card in you Ax - just install a utility such as Storage Tools or Pocket Mechanic. Check out my View MyPDA section over to the left and you should be to find links to both utilities. Before you do that, I would use file explorer to take a look at the card and make sure there is nothing on it. Once you format a card all data on it is erased.

I've found a good program for formatting and verifiying storage cards. It's called Flash Format made by CNetX. Here is a link to a 14 day trial copy. It worked for me and solved my problems. :approve:

Hard Reset

To preform a hard reset ,you will loose all data stored on your device.
Preform a hard reset if
*You want to delete all the data on your device
*You forget your password and need to clear it
*Your device is experencing several operational problems

To preform a hard reset
(1)press and hold the power button
(2)with the styus, hold the reset button for about 2 seconds
(3)follow instruction on the screen

If its just locked up you can press reset button and its like rebooting any pc. the hard reset will restore it to original state when axim was new the os is stored on the pocket pc.

I would just like to add that you can get a card reader practically for free if you do it right. There is a place online called www.ecost.com. I like them because they have some GREAT deals on flash memory. They do a lot of mail-in rebate stuff. Anyway I got my card reader from there for free "essentially". It's called an iRocks and it's a 12-in-1 reader and they want like $15.99 for it but there's a $15.99 mail-in rebate and if you purchase over $25 worth of crap then you get your shipping for $1.99. Only thing I don't like about them is that they will charge you a small "handling" fee...usually about three to five bucks. Anyway, just thought I would add that and hopefully it helps you out.

Format SD card

Responce:
You're best gettign a flash reader that takes the SD card, this will also make it possible to trasfer large files, Music etc. to your Axim from any PC. once you have the reader, open it like any drive on your PC, "delete" the card info, and your good to go.
Note most cards require that you "format" them to be used in media players or Cameras. I have not found that you need any special formating for the Axim, to access the data.
re: the restore, you'll need to use a software program like clean sweep for PDA's or consult DEll directlty. Do a full back-up prior just to be safe.
Good luck.
