password problem/hard reset!!

Dropped my PDA last week, battery came off for an extended time and hard reset my PDA. Restored successfully, but then in my stupid moment, decided to input a strong password (using the letter recognizer!!!) Of course, when I tried to duplicate that entry - it won't recognize my password.

I've tried hard resetting and all I get is a soft reboot to the password screen, and I'm stuck again. Took the battery out for another extended time, still no luck. HEEEELLLLPPPPP!

A hard-reset would bring you to the setup screen. What steps did you take for that initial hard-reset?

Apparently, I'm not coordinated enough to hold the power button and the stylus in the reset button - I just did it again and was able to hard reset. Now I've restored from my backup which I mysteriously was able to do just a minute ago, because I left the machine alone for a couple hours plugged in AC, and came back to the home screen, not the password screen. How unlikely is that. Now that I've restored from a hard backup - did it re-instate that damn mystery password as well? I'm afraid to find out.
