Daughter's X5 is dead

My daughter got an X5 2 years ago and probably used it 6 hours and put it in a drawer. I asked her about it and said she would bring it to me to play with. She got it out and it would not turn on. She could not find the power cord but did manage to find a Nokia AC changer and, much to my dismay, tried to charge it. Arrrg!

Anyway it didn't work when she brought it. I was almost a cruel and bought an adjustable universal charger and match the voltage as best I could. Still no luck.

Should I waste any more time on this baby? I've got a whopping $8 invested and wonder if should walk away? :-)

Seriously, and ideas that a true dell power cord will fix it or did the Nokia charger cook this baby?

Thanks!

Dont know, probably depends on the voltage. My guess is that the Nokia cooked it up pretty bad. You could probably sell it for parts somewhere. (But if you get it working, more power to you)

Oh and welcome to the site

Hoping to find some one nearby to swap a battery

I'm in Columbia SC and if I could find a daring sole nearby, maybe I could snap on a good battery or use their changer and give that a try.

Or I could quit whinning and go to Best Buy and try to find a replacment charger.

I've got an idea. Why dont you go to a Dell Kiosk or somewhere that sells X5's and has one on display. Take the charger cable of the Dell X5 on display and plug it into your's. (probably what you were thinking, just suggesting)

I like the way you think.

Any ideas on where one might find a Dell sales area in Columbia SC. I don't think I've ever seen one.

Please refrain from making some backwoods joke about SC.

Good News!!

A new battery and charger for $25 off eBay brought the X5 to life.

I dowloaded the PDF of the users guide from Dell's web site. :-)

Any ideas about original CD(s) that came with it. Do I need anything of of it/them? I'm at version 3.0.11171 (Build 11178)

I got ActiveSync 8.3 from Microsoft's web site.

I'm reading all about gps options on the site. What a great resource. My focus is marine charts 1st and streets 2nd.

Thanks
