Worried Built In Storage Problems

So I've got tons of pictures of all my travels in my Built in Storage because during a hard reset its the only thing that doesn't get wiped... So a few days ago I was using the Resco Photo Viewer to look through some of them then I turned it off and set it down... the next day I turned it on opened up Resco Photo Viewer and they were all gone! Not just the pictures, the ENTIRE BUILT IN STORAGE FOLDER! Hoping mabye the Photo Viewer was just acting up I checked using the File Explorer and sure enough the Built In Storage folder was gone, completely, I tried lots of soft resets, waiting, praying, nothing has been working... ME!

Axim X5 400 ($ 256)
DSI Holster ($ 30)
D-link 802.11b CF card ($ 40)
RadioShack 56k Modem CF card($ 20)
Belkin Screen Protectors ($ 20)
How cool you look when your walking around with all the above
(Priceless)

This appears to happen a lot with Dell Axims - this happened to my X50v, and to a friends X5.

The way to restore the X5 is to install a different OS onto your PDA. If you previously had WM2003, re-install PPC2002.

Because the ROM sizes of WM2003 and PPC2002 are different, the installation of the other OS causes the BIS to be reformed, thereby restoring it.

Once you've got it working, you can then re-install the OS that you originally had.

This naturally assumes that you still had a backup of the other ROM available...

That's why I keep pictures, ebooks etc. on SD or CF cards and remove the cards before a hard reset! Having had similar problems on hard drives, I backup everything daily on both hard drives on my computer. If I thought the PTB would not get hacked with me, I'd also back them up on one of the main system drives that gets a daily tape backup!

I have heard that a hard reset fix this on the X5. Backup first

A little update... I'm still using PPC 2002 (for adrianol)... I did a hard reset, heck a few for the fun of it, and nothing... zip.. nada... still had the same problem just minus all those programs I spent hours installing... so I am going to attempt to download an old ROM or redownload this one, or something along those lines... wish me luck

If you use PC2002, I recommend WM2003 at least. You'll see the difference. I'm sorry about your travel pictures. I've been in the same situation. Backup is the only way.
