Disappearing Program Access After Hard Reset

My X5 locked up in the "on" mode, displaying only the Dell logo after several soft resets. Seeeing no alternatives, I did a hard reset. Since then, programs seem to be present on my unit, but there are no icons for them, nor are they listed after tapping on "Programs."

For example, it still seems to sync, so ActiveSync must still be there, but I can't find an icon and I don't have ActiveSync listed in my Programs. Same for Pocket Word, Calculator, and others. How do I access them and get back their icons, links, and names? Must I reload everything from the Pocket PC Companion CD?

Sounds like the program shortcuts are missing from the Windows/Start Menu/ folder. Try relocating the icons in the Windows folder and copying them to the Start Menu and Programs folder.

if you hard reset then everything on your device will be gone, unless you have them installed on a storage card or bis. you dont have to reinstall everything from the cd, the entire os is stored in the rom.

Pocket Word and Calculator should not disappear following a hard reset: these programs sit in the ROM and should be restored following the reset.

Thanks for the recommendations. Forgot to mention several things that might help with a diagnosis (and cure?). Shortly after installing version 2.2 of Lexigoo, a window began popping up on my screen. It was titled, "Just In Time Debugging." It had the following information on it:
Application filesys.exe has performed an illegal operation.
Program: filesys.exe
Exception: 0xc0000005
Address: 0001ba64
Do you want to debug? (Clicking No will shut down the application) [Yes and No buttons were at the bottom of the window.]

Clicking either of the buttons had no effect whatsoever. I finally hit the soft reset button and would begin again. However, it was just a short time before the message would again pop up.

Finally, after doing about a dozen soft resets, the Axim froze when I hit the soft reset button, displaying the Dell logo as the soft reset usually does, but totally locking up. The power button would not cut it off, nothing happened when I touch the screen, and absolutely nothing eliminated the frozen Dell logo display except removing the battery. That's when I finally did the hard reset.

Now, I took your advice and tried copying the calculator shortcut to the Windows\Programs file, but doesn't seem to do anything--no icon shows up under Programs. Should I do another full backup and another hard reset?

I'm sure you've tried this, but here's a few things to check;

on the axim click start
click settings
click the items tab...put check marks where they apply
THEN
open activesync
put check marks where they apply
Let us know if this helps
