SD Card only recognized with lock enabled?
I am not sure what happened but I was transferring files to a lexar 256mb sd on my X5 300Mhz and the connection locked up. I waited for a while before reseating the dock connection. After that, the SD card will only be seen if you move the little lock switch on the sd card itself to "Lock". If you leave it unlocked, the x5 moves at a snails pace when going from menu to menu. The Sd card does not show up in Memory.. If you lock the sd card, everything seems faster and it does show the extra memory.. Of course you cannot transfer any files to the SD since it is locked. I will add that the sd card reads fine unlocked and allows file transfer in the sd slot in my new HP laptop. Has anyone seen this ? I have also formatted the sd card while in the HP .. I used fat32..

I've seen similar, but not the same. I found that a very small portion of the SD Card case had worn/broken which obvuiously was the very small pice which allowed my X50v to know the card was inserted - i ended up mutilateing both the 1gig card and an old 8 mb card I had to make a frankenSDCard (1 GB in and 8MB body) ....

Here's what I'd suggest. Try putting it in your HP and formatting again. Copy random files to the SD until you've filled the 256MBs. My guess is that your flash memory is currupted. You'll probably get an error about being full before you reach 256mb. If so, get a MRB from Lexar, ship it back to them, and get a new flash. If not, consider yourself lucky. I've shipped back several flash cards as a result of crashed computers trying to write to flash. Good luck, hockey. Oh, and by the way, welcome to Aximsite! Hope you find this site helpful!

Thanks for the help.. This is a somewhat new lexar.. I have not removed it since buying it last year so wear and tear is nill. I was sorta leaning toward corruption but the fact that it was working in the laptop made me think otherwise. I will try filling up the memory and try to get the x5 to recognize it .. I guess that the HP is more forgiving when it sees a corrupted card. Lexar has lifetime warranty if I am not mistaken. I can also find a old sd to confirm that my sd slot is not hosed.

I loaded the card up.. no luck . Later, I went out and purchased a similar lexar 256mb and it exhibited the same behavior .. I will return it and try the 512mb that is on sale for 29.99 after that I might have a paperweight. I have reverted it to wm2002.. I would assume that loading the .ris backup of 2002 is the farthest I can go to put it at factory image. The previous owner did a hard reset before I upgraded it to 2003.. Any other ideas? | |||
