X5 soft rest actually hard resets

Lately I have had a few minor issues with the X5 freezing up - being impatient that I am I do a soft reset - pressing only the little button on the left side - however the system boots to the start up screen and puts me through the motions of a hard reset - losing all my data. It really is an issue - any idea what could be causing this?

Welcome to Aximsite!

You're definitely not the only person who's had this happen. Most likely it is because of some kind of software conflict. What do you have installed and how much main memory do you have?

So when does it freeze up? GPS software is usually pretty resource intensive; you may have to manage your memory better by making sure you have as little installed/saved in main memory, deleting temp files, and making sure you close running programs using the Switcher Bar or a 3rd party utility such as Magic Button, Wisbar/Icbar or Spb Pocket Plus.

Sorry - main memory is at 60MB - I have a 1 GB CF Card that I use also for the ROutis maps. Never had a problem before w/Routis so I don't think it is that program.

I just noticed a small hole through the rubber side at the reset button. Thinking the stylus might be shorting the board or hitting something it shouldn't I pushed my finger on the side at the reset and it did a soft reset like it should. I tried it a second time and again it did a soft reset. Looks like problem solved - I hope - any idea where I can get a replacement rubber grip for the left side? Ebay?

I remember hearing about people ordering these rubber sides from Dell. I'd call them first then try Ebay or the Classifieds here for nonworking X5s to use as parts.
