ActiveSync works first time then goes to guest
First I will tell you what the problem is, then I will describe what I have done so far to try to fix it.
The Problem:
I have ActiveSync 3.6 both at home and work. My home computer is Windows XP, work is Windows 95. I initially setup the partnership at home to be "Only One Computer". I have had no problems at home. Now I bought a second cradle and I want to also sync at work. Here lies the problem. When setting up the partnership at work, I selected "Two Computers". The sync works for the first time. When I remove the Axim from the cradle then put it back, ActiveSync thinks it is connected to a Guest Partnership. How do I remove the partnership information from the Axim? I believe it stores it somewhere. When I remove the Axim from the cradle again, ActiveSync changes the description from Guest to my actual device name. This tells me that there is something on the device, but what and where?
What I have done so Far:
I have reinstalled ActiveSync 3.6. Did not fix it
I have changed my device name on Axim. Did not fix it
I have deleted the partnership on the PC. Did not fix it.
I have tried to setup work as the only computer. Did not fix it.
And for the biggie, I have done a Hard Reset. Did not fix it.
I have continued looking into this. Here is a clean log just after I have created the partnership and redocked to the cradle. Does anyone know if this looks okay or not.

************ END OF LOG ****************
At this point in the game, I think Windows 95 may be the problem.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Gretchen, i had the same problem after upgrading to the new Axim Roms. After upgrading my rom, i would do a restore, and then try to sync, but everytime i tried to sync it would attempt to sync me as a Guest and not my device name. After disconnecting, my activesync on the desktop would display my device name. But when trying to sync, would switch to Guest.
I tried everything that you have tried to fix it, but i found that the only thing to fix my situation was the following:
1) hard reset
2) did not restore but manually reinstalled all my programs
3) reinstalled activesync 3.6
this fixed it, but granted it was a pain in the ass. Had to go through this process twice so far and would not wish it on my worse enemy. If anyone knows a good activesync replacement program, please let me know. i'm fed up with the buggy activesync.

Yeah I tried all those too and I had no luck. But I do want to add something though. When I got home that night after posting the original message, I was able to sync the Axim to Windows XP without any problems. Remember, my work computer is Windows 95. I am using a serial cradle at work and a USB one at home. Strange I know. Someone said something that ActiveSync needs Internet Explorer 6 or later. Can anyone verify this? If this is true, then that is why Windows 95 will not work. I am trying to get Windows 98 at work. I really wanted Windows XP but they said too many problems with all the other apps that the users use. Oh well.

I thought that PPC02 would not sync with Win95.

I think your right GOIRISH. After all the time I have spent, I uninstalled ActiveSync at work and waiting for an OS upgrade.
By the way, did you read somewhere about PPC02 not being able to sync with 95? If so, could you let me know where. It will increase my chances of getting an OS upgrade here at work.
Thanks.

I have actually read it on various boards and if memory serves correctly it is on the M$ page for ActiceSync.
Found this info. surrounding compatibility. Read number 9. And as sad as it sounds I am in the same boat for my work PC. Only have Win95 a this time.

tgerstner,
I had the same problem as you and spent over a week pulling out my hair trying to figure out why i could establish a partnership and sync just fine, however when i disconnected and reconnected to computer, i was always connecting as guest.........i have found the cause of my problem and fixed it.........this might help.....
I had my axim setup with pocketinformant in my startup folder so that everytime i soft reset, pocketinformant would startup. However, i believe since the upgrade to PI 4+ the guest syncing problem began. Apparently when i have PI running or minimized and connected to computer to sync, it would sync as guest. I have removed PI from my startup, soft reset, and when i sync i sync using my partnership name. In short, do not have PI running or minimized when syncing in order to get a normal sync with computer. I found references to PI causing this problem from some postings over at Brighthand. Another program that people mentioned as causing this guest sync problem is Calligrapher which i do not have or run.
If you have PI 4 or Calligrapher running while trying to sync, this could be the reason why you keep getting synced as Guest. Just kill the programs, remove from startup if u have it there, and soft reset, then resync. I hope that helps you.
