I'd like to use the sync cable for the Axim to talk RS232 to some field panels I support. Anyone have the pin outs for the connection on the bottom of the Axim? Or a product besides an I/O CF. Paying over $100 just to talk to the panels is a little excessive. I could talk to the panels with the Jornada just fine and was wondering if the Axim could do the same.
Any help greatly apprciated.

There are numerous posts on this topic, under different titles. The Axim is still new. There is no serial cable yet.

I'm in the same boat. It'd be nice to get 256Mb on that serial card for $150.
A serial cable can't be that far down the road. The wierd part is that MS may be discouraging this "archaic" use.

All,
Ok here it is. The serial connection you all have wanted is finally here.
Serial Sync Cable SKU# 310-3474 - $19
Serial Sync Cradle SKU# 310-3475 - $39 (w/out AC power adapter SKU # 310-2944 - $19)
There is proabably a limited number of these units so understrand there might be delays in shipping.
Regards
gordy

;) Thank goodness, there is finally a cable so I can connect my Garmin gps to my new Axim.
Thanks for giving us the SKU numbers, but where and how do we place an order?

Rickford,
Contact a Dell a Software and Peripheral sales rep at 1-800-449-3355. Just give them the part number and they can get it for you.
One question though, how do you intend on hooking up your Garmin GPS? I am aware that they have a serial connection but how do you mate the two? What model do you have?
Regards
gordy

To tell you the truth, I haven't gotten that far yet. Thanks to your tip I just placed my order a couple of hours ago for the new Axim serial cable.
If it doesn't work for the GPS I still want the cable so that I can hook to my older laptop.
As for the GPS, I have a GPS cable with a female serial connector. I presume the Axim serial cable will have a female serial connector. I haven't looked yet, but I presume I can get (or make) a double-male connector to go inbetween.
Hopefully, that'll be the least of my worries now that the Axim cable is available.

To hook up a device via the serial sync cable, you'll need a DB9 female to female adapter, and a Null modem adapter. The Null modem adapter is needed, since a few of the pins need to go to different places when connecting a serial device to another serial device.

That makes sense.
Do you know if anyone makes a null modem adaptor with the female to female integral?
As it is I'm already going to have about 10 feet of cable between the two. I know, I should just go buy a cf gps, and stick it right in the cf slot, but I'm too cheap!
