Battery woes

Hi. I'm a newbie here. I searched around and didn't see any posts about exactly my problem, so here it is...

I've had my Axim for not quite 2 years. I bought a replacement main battery maybe 6 months ago when the original drained of power and wouldn't recharge. Now it is happening again with this newer battery. I've had it synced up all day and it's not recharging, though it says "charging." It's at 0%. Note: It was powered off all night, and when I went to turn it on this morning, suddently it was at 0%.

I hesitate to go buy another expensive replacement battery...

What is the problem? Is it the battery or the connection - so it's not able to even get charged? I'm not all that techie...

What do you recommend I do? I'm tempted to revert to the paper world rather than have to sink more money into something that's so problematic (I have problems with Active Sync too, but that's a story for another day.)

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

Jod

Welcome to Aximsite!

Are you using the cradle? Have you checked the connections to make sure everything is properly connected? Do you see any lights on in the cradle? Are you using the AC adapter or just USB? Have you tried charging it in the spare battery charger (in the rear of the cradle)?

Thanks for your quick reply. Wow!
Um...
No, I'm not using the cradle. I'm using a Brando sync cable (USB) that charges at the same time. My connections seem okay, but I am forever having ActiveSync problems too... Everything IS connected, but sometimes I have to reboot in order for ActiveSync to do its thing.

I have not tried charging in the back of the cradle... didn't know that was an option. Will have to try that at home tonight. Thanks for the tip.

I guess my bigger fear is that this thing eats batteries every few months. Or that at some point something goes wrong and batteries can't retain a charge or get fully charged due to a malfunction in the PDA itself... How often do you have to replace the main battery?

I had my X5 for about a year and never had to replace the battery. Bear in mind that the battery does not charge well when powered on and syncing with the sync cable. Try just charging with it powered OFF to see if that helps. I'm suspecting that your battery seems to have the most problems when it gets low, and then the sync charger is not capable of charging it properly at all. For a strong charge, always use your cradle.

I'm charging it in the cradle now and it seems to be working better, but really slow! I've had it synced for an hour and it's 60% charged. I just hope it holds its charge now! Thanks for your advice. I'll check in again if the charge doesn't hold.

Thanks for the tip! I still have the old battery, charged it up as suggested, and it is fine. Argh. Why didn't the user manual tell me this???
