How to format Built-In-Storage?
My built-in-storage is reporting only 1Mb free even though there are no files on it. Is there a program which will format the BIS? I've tried Resco File Explorer but it won't work.
Thanks in advance. | |||

Unfortunately, no. There may be ways to recover, and a search might find some solutions, but I haven't found any that work on a X5, I have some corrupted files that refuse to be deleted, so they just take up space.
They have been rumors that flashing with a different language ROM might help, but not sure if that actually works. Gary

Wow, that sucks! I found threads on corrupted BIS dating back over 2 years ago and figured there would be a solution by now. I'm running WM2003 so don't want to flash to a different ROM.
Thanks anyway. | |||

What are you using....
....to view the contents of the BIS? The built-in file explorer won't show you quite a few items that might be taking up space. Using something like Resco File Explorer will allow you to see everything that's there and allow you to remove or move it, not to mention edit the registry if needed.

I've used File Explorer, Resco File Explorer and Total Commander. I made sure to delete all files, including hidden files. It still shows 1Mb free and over 20Mb used. It definitely won't let me copy any file bigger than 1Mb.
Thanks for the help. | |||

I remember back a while after the X5 came out, there were a batch that had a problem with the BIS. You could copy a file over to it, but when you deleted it the space didn't free back up. AFAIK, there never was a fix for it. Dell was replacing units that had this problem, but I'm guessing that unless you have an extended warranty it might be too late to get a replacement now.
You could try though. These units shipped like this, so you could argue that just because you didn't discover it during the warranty period, it doesn't mean you should get stuck with a defective unit. Don't hold your breath though. If it's been working fine for a while and just started doing this you're probably out of luck. I just purchased a 1gig SD card even though my BIS is working ok and moved everything over. The BIS was just too slow to suit me. Regards, Gary
