HELP! How to upgrade ROM without ActiveSync??!?
Hi everyone!
I need help here: I've tried to update my french-speaking ROM to A03, English version, and now it is completely f***ed-off. I can't run most of the programs, of which ActiveSync. Thus I can't do any "downgrade" back to a French ROM.
Anybody got an idea about how to upload this ROM without using ActiveSync? I've read that such a thing is possible on an Ipaq, using windows Hyperterminal and a serial cable.
Of course, tech support doesn't want to admit it is the fault of their website and upgrades, where there is no information about this "language issue".
I would be very, very, very pleased if someone could have a solution...

When you say you can't run ActiveSync, it that on the x5 or your PC. If x5 have you tried doing a hard reset and then upgrading the rom right after that.

unfortunately I did. Several times. Didn't work
and best of all: after having written to Dell, I've got a letter saying that they don't want to replace it under guarantee, saying it was my fault. FREAKS! All I did was follow every step-by-step instruction from their website!!
i'm really, really disappointed about them. I thought such a "serious" brand would have better Tech Support and a customer care WHO CARES!!!
sob... next time I should be obliged to go thru IpaQ... unless I find a Linux OS for my axim, but I must be dreaming...

Why did you try and use the US A03 instead of waiting for the French version?

Doesn't the A03 completely rewite the OS from scratch? Is this why some of your programs don't work, because they are looking for french language files and such? If thats the case can you run the US version of Activesync to connect to your PDA and use that connection to load your old ROM?

I suppose this is "sort of" the case. But I'm thinking there might be a solution not far from here. If anyone could send me (via e-mail, just leave a PM !) the EXECUTABLE file(s) for ActiveSync ON THE AXIM (which is what seems to be missing. Either the shortcut is broken because the name of the exe in english is not the same than in french, or the exe is completely missing), maybe I could copy it to the Axim thru IR, and then execute it, which could give me a chance to get it connected again, and thus put back a french ROM...
by the way, to answer the previous question... well, I'm sort of impatient, and it wouldn't have bothered me to have an OS in english (moreover, US keyboard map is closer to the Swiss French one, to which i'm used, than the French (France) one that comes with the French axim...)
if anyone finds this exe file (or its name, it could be somewhere in my Axim, but where??!?), pleeeease tell me!!!!

I know the feeling... ;)
But that doesn't really make it Dells fault now right? I hope they release a ROM update that fixes your problem. :)

Yes it still does! On the support site it was written something like: "Dowloads available for my device", with my serial number on the top of the page. Which clearly means that it should have worked for my Axim (since the S/N indicates its original language). If not, the link shouldn't have been there.
I won't leave this position. I've prepared a folder with every step-by-step instructions that have lead me to download this upgrade. They can't win in case of an action in justice!

Then you are correct, its Dells problem if it didn't say English version only.
