touch screen dead likes to be squeezed

hi
My touch screen has gone on the blink. The case on the side, top left has a few millimetres gap, don't remember dropping it but then I can be cack-handed. Anyhoo if I gently squeeze it the touch screen works again intermittently(you can always see the screen just not use it as touch screen).

I bought it of ebay in Feb 2005 couldn't wait for Dell to get supplies in the UK. So don't know if Dell will repair it for me??

I read the article about dismantling it at www.x50v.it, should I give it a go or is it better to get the pros in? Anyone else had this happen to them and how was it solved.

Thanks in advance.
PS Below is a quick snap of the offender don’t know if it helps or not…

Unless you have "Complete Care" you are likely out of luck with getting Dell to do the repair (they'd acutally just replace it). When you bought the X50 you should have had the warranty transferred to you. So first check if it included Complete Care.

As for taking it apart... my guess is that with a crack like that the plastic boss that the screw at that corner goes into is broken off. Probably pulled out a cable at the same time. If there is no sign of damage to the screen itself, I'd say you have a fair chance you can just glue the broken piece in place (use the right glue!!!), re-insert the cables, and put it back together.

Of course, it may well be that the cable's connector was torn from the circuit board... but then you're toast anyway.

no sign of damamge to the screen still works when I hold the case together. Don't know if it is a crack looks like the case has just come apart a bit.
What's the 'right glue'?
Thanks

Does the touch-screen work at all? I believe you indicated it does not. It has a separte connection to the circuit board.

Have you tried snapping the case back together?

As for the 'right glue': A tiny, tiny drop of something like Locktite's super glue. Avoid touching / handle the broken surfaces so that you don't get the oil from your skin on them. Use pliers to hold the broken-off bit when removing the screw. And be careful with the glue, or you'll end up permanently attached to your Axim!

yeah touch screen does work if I put pressure on the top left corner, I tried snapping it together; it wont have it. I was hoping I could lossen the screws and then snap it back. I'll need to buy a screwdriver first.
