Dell Axim x50v Not Recognizing When on Cradle

HELP! I have a Dell Axim x50v, Rom A02 -- been working fine for over a year. However, when I put in my cradle, it will not recognize device. Also tried on another cradle that is working for my sister's Dell Axim x50v and msg reads: USB Opening Port and get stuck. I have hard reset as well as soft reset and still nothing.

The only power going through on either cradle is powering up. I have switched usb cables, feel the power going through the usb cable to the cradle and still no usb connection; therefore no ActiveSync -- using 4.0 (approximately 8 months). Even have uninstalled AS and reinstalled AS 3.8 -- still same problem. I have even tried usb cable directly to pda -- still no connection.

Have I tried everything before sending into Dell -- have a 3 year warranty. Since Dell is very slow and loves to send out refurbished units, might very well go with my favorite vendor, PDASmart -- not expensive and excellent turnaround.

Anyone have any suggestions? Or just wait to receive my WM2005 cd I ordered from Dell????

Thank you.

Thanks for your quick response, Frenchy.

I have done numerous of hard resets -- approximately 4 a day -- still no usb connection.

Guess will have to send in.. Question: Since my sister's Axim is working fine along with her cradle, do you think my problem is in my hardware (pda) or cradle?

Want to make sure that it is the pda -- not the cradle.

Anyway, thanks.

There is nothing wrong with a refurbished unit. I have had one for 6 months and it works great.

are you sure you've done a hard reset (you get the prompt on the front screen, the time is reset and all data is lost) instead of a soft reset?

Why not try your PDA in your sisters cradle and her PDA in your cradle. Then you will know exactly what part ( if any) is not working correctly

ALso, you might try uninstalling the Dell USB drivers from the PC and then re-installing them, following the directions carefully. Also check your firewall settings, sometimes that can block the sync connections.

Yes, tried my pda in my sister's cradle -- still only power but not synching.

I will uninstall the Dell USB and reinstall carefully and let you know how it worked out.

Talk to you later.

Thnks for the help!!!

Also, how do you find the Dell USB Drivers to uninstall???? I also did hard resets -- just the way you describe.

Control panel, System, hardware, device manager, then click on the Windows CE USB item. If you don't see something with Dell in the name, then cradle the Axim and repeat the process. You should eventually see something like Dell Axim USB Sync. Right click and uninstall it. Then uncradle the Ax, unplug the cradle and follow the directions in the user manual for reinstalling from scratch.

Okay, will try this now and get back with you all.

Thanks.

By the way, when I put my pda in my sister's cradle, the following msg came up and froze: Communications Error: Cannot start communications with the desktop computer. Remote Networking could not start due to a critical error (Error 608).

Please reconnect your device. If the problem persists, restart your device using the instructions provided by the manufacturer.

So I soft reset my pda and then got the following msg: Connect to USB. Status: Opening Port -- frozen again -- I pressed Cancel.

Now will try Dell USB Drive uninstall and let you know.

Thanks.

Well, went into device manager on pc -- never saw Windows CE USB item, with and without the pda in the cradle.

What does that mean?????

Thanks.

Wi-fi is off. The BIG trouble was my pc -- not pda. Had to bring pc back to default state and reinstall everything. Now pda is great.

Thanks everyone for everything.

Everything is back to normal, pc; 1 quirk with pda. Now when I put my pda on cradle, msg reads: Connect To 'USB Status: Opening Port CANCEL button Hide Status Button.

The pda freezes at this point. I can click hide status but still not connected. Have soft and hard reset again numerous of times.

Any suggestions would greatly appreciated.
