Yeah, mine is hard-reset bricked as well a few days after upgrading to WM5. Dealing with the support queue at the moment.
The progress bar on the reset screen freezes 80% in and doesn't respond until the battery dies (if you call that "responding").
The thing that scares me the most is that my warranty expired two weeks ago. Let's see if I can get a replacement, or if I'm F*ed...

Re: Frozen Boot
I have been running WM5 successfully on my x50v for 3-weeks until today. I left the x50v off and off the cradle for the past couple of days - it had a fully charged battery. When I powered-up today I got a white screen.
I then tried a soft-reset and got a frozen boot at 80 percent and a hard reset didn't help either. I did some experimentation and got it to work with the following steps:
1) Removed the battery.
2) Installed x50v onto the Cradle.
3) On the PC-side turned off Firewall (if installed).
4) Hard reset while x50v is on the cradle.
4) Launched ActiveSync (v4).
5) Have Active Sync detect/search for the connection.
Allow some time, around 15-min, and ActiveSync will detect the Axim - at least that is what happened with my unit.
I'm a new to all this. The x50v is my first PDA which I really love but WM5 is a bit unstable. Hopefully the ROM update is just around the corner so I am going to stay with WM5 a bit longer.
I also noticed that if the processor stays at 624MHz while in auto; a soft-reset will bring it back to where it switches to different speeds accordingly. Sluggish performance and warm battery usually indicates that auto speed is stuck at 624MHz. Also CF not recognized is another symptom that requires a soft reset.
Hope this helps - good luck!

For me it's not working. It cannot boot to the end and ActiveSync cannot find it.

This was once discussed before in another thread, feel free to read it here:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=103402
Basically, where does it stop booting up properly? Does the start-up bar show on the screen when it freezes? How far from the end of the screen is the bar? This information would help to compare the problem I had with your problems. Just leave the Axim on and in the cradle for an extended period of time (at least 30 minutes) without worrying about connecting with ActiveSync or hard resetting, etc. Just let it sit there and do its thing. If you read my post, I was just letting it sit in the cradle while writing a gripe post about it and it just popped back on! Since then, I have not had the same problem again.

Ditto...
Yesterday mine did the exact same thing. I contacted the Dell online support and they are sending out another one. Hope this is not a recurring problem!

Basicly You all Have a BRICK call Dell for a replacement The Directions on the WM upgrade are precise Active Sync Partnership should be deleted before upgrading the Axim otherwise you have a BRICK the OS is Gone lost in the inevitable twilightzone. It has to go back to dell to be reformatted with an operating system I tried many times to attempt a fix and was unable.

Well this will be my first post and unfortunately it's not one of excitement of just recieving my new axim x50v or how kewl it is but one of distress. I just got done talking to dell and a very nice representative sent out a replacement. Ugh :(
The nice thing is I purchased my axim from ebay @ $235 shipped and brand new with a second battery and 2 yr warranty so I can handle a little bit of the issues.
The representative told me, which i'm sure you've all heard the same, that the axim was designed for windows 2003 se and not windows mobile 5.0, he suggested never to install it until the known microsoft issues were in the clear. I'm going to take his advice, this is a pain in the arse :)
When I recieved my axim it already had 5.0 on it, this time let's hope it comes with something more worthy of my time!
Thanks dell for replacement, microsoft hurry up and fix your new crap!

Think mine is a brick too! Why are dell releasing software that does this?
Mine stops at 80%. I have left it in the cradle for and hour.
Done the same after taking the battery out all night.
The unit was working "fine" with WM5 on for 2 weeksbefore randomly locking up.
I hade tried booting from an SD card. After copying the WM5 bootloader and image to the card, reseting using all my fingers.... the unit just comes up with the message "SD update image A01". It does not ask me to push any buttons at all.
Is this correct?
Thanks in advance.

Make sure the SD card is formatted as FAT32. Do this on a PC using flash card reader.
Place the two files WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG.nb0 and WM50_K_A01_X50v_WM5_ENG_nb0.crc on the card.
Boot into ths "SD update image A01" screen. It will take a little while (less than 1 min) for the flash program to scan the SD card and locate the image. Use the D-pad to pick the image.
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice.
I sort of have been trying that already. The device never finds the image although it knows there is a card in the device.
I have also tried the 2003se boot loader changed to WM50_B_A05_X50v_WM2k3_ENG.nb0 (with CRC file) and the image DiMa_K_A05_X50v_WM2k3_ENG.nb0 (with CRC file)
The device boots up into "SD image Update A01" in both cases and does nothing.
The Record+Power+Reset Diag works fine and reports no errors.
I am baffled.
Think I am doing things right?!?

My fault!!!
Was using an MMC card not an SD one.
I presume that is the problem.
Will try to reformat it tonight and give it one more try before buying an SD card tomorrow.
What are the better makes of SD cards to buy?
I believe there are problems with some...
I feel so dumb!

Sorted now!!!
MMC cards work fine for data and video files.
The unit wont boot from them.
Bought a cheap 128meg for recovery purposes!!!
Thanks all those that help me sort it out.
It seems that for serious boot up problems that reflashing the software not the boot loader is the way forward!!!

Ok so I was incorrect in saying it was brand new, it was owned previously for a week, which to me is brand new, anyways I tried to do the SD flash thingy and it worked so when I got my other pda from dell I decided i'm going to keep it until they call me. That way if any issue do arise again after I "upgraded" my current one to 2003 se then I'll have another device.
