Take the main battery out for half an hour or so. Hopefully you'll have a backup to restore from, if not, the information is lost!
Once the battery has been out for a while, replace it and hard reset without turning the device on. If that doesn't get you going, try the operation again and turn on the device (without the hard reset) and then try flashing the ROM with the original (you should have saved a copy when you updated).
Your information on the Axim is already lost already: hopefully you have a backup, if not, please note that the guidance above will clear all of the information you have added.

The same thing happened to me tonite. Dell is sending me a rplacement, but I would really like to just fix the problem myself. What caused the problem? Is it WM 5? Is there a fix other than replacement? Should I reinstall 5 when I get the replacement? Thanks!
I just spent an hour on the phone with Dell Hardware Support. They were no help and are sending me a new Axim. Outlook would not sync after I loaded WM5. I was working through the firewall issues outlined by MS and had just loaded AS4.1 when my X50v started locking up after a hard reset. If it's any help, the last thing they had me do was hard reset while it was in the cradle.

Try this Copy an older Rom Update to you SD card and rename it to <filename>.img
turn the device off.
Insert the SD card.
hold the power button and the record button.
press the reset button on the back(this requires some tricky holding of the axim)
release the reset button but hoild power and record.
it should start in Rom Update mode and let you flash the older rom.
this should restore you back to being able to boot and you can try the upgrade again.

OK, I have the same problem, so I tried this idea. Here is what happened: first I found out that instead of the Record Button we must press the Wireless On/Off button. That did take me to the SD Image Update A01 screen. However, after the Message reading SD Card, I get another message saying No Suitable Image Found! I did get the image from the Upgrade CD's and it ends with the extension IMG and is specifically for the X50v. I did not rename the image file, as I did not understand what I should rename it to, since the extension is already img... What am I doing wrong??? Please help! Thanks.

I too have the same problem, can any expert help?????
One other thing that I found. The image file must be renamed to diag.nb0. Then you do not get the No Suitable Image Found message. However, I still cannot get past this point. The diag.nb0 is listed on the screen and you must press the Enter button twice to start the Update process, but somehow the process is aborted. Come on, experts... HELP!!!!!
