x50v WM05 can't boot past 80%

Greetings all.

I have an interesting issue. I flashed my x50v to WM05 about a month ago (legit copy my work bought for me). During the upgrade, my PC rebooted itself and I immediately thought I had a shiney paperweight Axim. To my surprise, the PPC came back up to the formatting memory progress bar. After loading the OS and working fine for a few weeks, I turned on the Ax and had a blank white screen. I did a soft reset and the Ax got stuck at 80% boot (on the blue dell OS logo screen). I tried another soft reset, hard reset, hard reset with no cards in it, removing the battery for an hour and doing a hard reset that way, nothing can get it to boot past 80%.

So I get an RMA from dell. While it is on the way, all the sudden my pda does get past 80% and boots. i'm shocked, and knowing that i take better care of my ax than 99.9% of other people, sent the RMA back and kept mine. Well, last week it happened again. after a soft reset i can't get it to boot past 80%.

Any thoughts or "secret" boot sequences to bypass as much as possible (although hard reset should be pretty basic)? I've contacted Dell again and hopefully they will grant my re-RMA request....

I haven't had this but others have reported that you have to leave it powered on in that state and that after 20-30 minutes it will fix itself.

Ahh, another reason to NOT upgrade to WM5. I remember how excited everyone was about it... Now I just laugh at all those people who have upgraded and discovered all the problems.

Same issue here

I had the same problem where the unit would not boot past 80%. I soft reset, hard reset, removed battery and then called Dell who shipped out a new unit to me which I will get tomorrow. After reading the threads I put the X50v in the cradle and let it sit at 80%. It took around 15 to 20 minutes and then it finished booting, beeped and came back alive.

Just before the original problem, the unit was off but was very hot to the touch. I'll swap units in case the overheating caused any unseen damage that would reduce the life of the unit.

Same Problem

I have had the same problem. I got my x50v, upgraded to WM05 (love the latest toys) and have had no problems. Not being able to sync over WiFi was a pain but everything else, except skype, worked fantastically.

Now I have a blue dell logo and a progress bar that is at about 80%. I can't connect to the PC so I cant roll back to 2003SE. I will try leaving it in the cradle overnight to see if it fixes it like it did for others.

Should I be seeking a replacement from dell? Is there something wrong with the Hardware, or is it purely WM05? Should I roll-back to 2003 or just continue on? Will the roll-back fix the problem??

Thanks

flash

I wonder if this is gonna get worse & worse... I bet it's fixing bad sectors in flash!

Are all these axims gonna wear out?

I've got the same thing going on too... WM5 worked fine for about a month, then last Friday I got the white screen... I removed the battery and I've had it in the cradle with a hard reset for about 2 hours. Gonna try another hard reset again.

If I can get this up and running, I'm gonna flash back to 2003 for awhile... WM5 is nice, but I really didn't see much benefit from it.

Well, no luck so far...

I really don't want to send this in... My Axim is in pristine condition and I'm not too keen on getting a refurb.

I'm going let it "boot" overnight, and pray that it finally works.

Axim X50V 80% boot then nothing

I have the same problem of an 80% boot up then NOTHING. I have tried soft and hard resets several times and left it overnight but still does not boot up. I too have upgraded to WM5 and if my PDA were ever to sort itself out will certainly and immediately re-flash it back to Win M 2003. What a load of crap.
PS has anyone actually left their PDA on for some considerable time and its sorted itself out? Mine hasn't.

You can fix this. You need to use the SD image loader and reflash the system either to WM5 again (but this can still happen in the future) or downgrade to WM2003. In the main x50/x51 forum there is a sticky thread that explains the image loader and towards the end of the thread there are links to the rom files that you need. (The rapidshare links at the start of the thread DO NOT WORK)
