On two different X50v's I've owned, I get the same problem where the wi-fi connection to my Linksys router at home works fine for about 2 weeks. Then, PIE starts to report 'Cannot Connect' messages. This has happened under WM5 and 2003SE. The WLAN app on the AXIM shows a connection, packets being exchanged, and poor signal strength, but 3 bars on the icon on the Today screen.
I know the Linksys router is OK, since I can connect with no problems at any time with my laptop.
As I said, everything is fine with a brand new unit, out of the box (first one got bricked by the WM5 upgrade), but it's now happening again with my second unit, after about 2 weeks of no problem connections.
I'm loathe to hard-reset the AXIM to see if that will restore it, since I'm convinced that will just be a temporary fix.
I had a similar problem. But I found changing my channel on my router made a difference. I also found 2 new networks that weren't there before. But I also had trouble w/my laptop in the same area of the house. Maybe try the channel change.

No way. I often find that my pda smokes my intell 2200bg built in mini-pci card (inspiron 8600).
It only improved with the last firmware. Before that it was a little wimpy... but the last firmware beefed it up! Sorry to hear you're having problems. I think I remember having problems like that a lOOOOOOOOng time ago. (9 months maybe?) But not since A05
Are you getting an IP address from your router??
Do you have WEP enabled?

I've experienced somthing similar, not really the length of time i'm using it. but on mine If I use another service, i.e. another hotspot, and then try to reconnect to mine at home it doesn't work. I have no choice but to restore a backup. Usually if I'm going on a business trip, I make a new backup before I leave and restore the backup when I get back home, if it won't connect properly once I return. I rarely add stuff when i'm away. Won't work for most, but it works for me.

Thanks, I'd heard that from someone else and changed to Channel 1 from the default. It didn't seem to make a difference tho.
Well, I took the big jump last night and did a hard reset on the AXIM. Then, with it straight from the reset, I tried to connect -- same problem. It seems to sit on 'Locating...' in the longest time in PIE, then eventually comes back with Unable to Connect' message.
Looks like it might actually be a problem with the Router...hmmmm...
I think I have the solution! Thanks to ikehiker, who mentioned that the X50's can only deal with 802.11(b), I took a look at the configuration of the router and found that it had been set to high-speed (g). I tried dialing it back a bit (it has 3 levels) and now everything is working just fine -- in fact better and more reliably than before. Download speeds seem better as well.
BTW, my bad -- the router is actually a D-Link 714p+, which has just been (Nov. 2005) officially 'dropped' by D-Link. (They provide technical support, however, until Nov. 2009, but no more firmware upgrades).

As a side note, 802.11b has better broadcast and distance signal. If you don't have over 3mbps net speed, or transfer files wirelessly, g is kind of overkill. I have found that manually chaning my settings on my computers to 'b' does actually speed up the connection. Odd, kind of funny, but true.
