Worried Trouble Accurately recognizing CF Devices...

I recently cracked the screen of my Cassiopoea E200 and used it as an excuse to upgrade to an X50V. Got it a few days ago from Ebay for $250 and it arrived in perfect condition. It was at A02. I installed my Nav software CopilotLive!v4. I found that not only did that version not work with WM2003SE but when I insert my CF GPS that came with that software, I'd see an error that asked me to setup my "Modem". It's a GPS not a modem... The main reason that I bought the Axim is that I was told by a manufacturer of a digital recording interface that I wanted to use for live recording that the X50V was great for their product. Using a software package called live2496 and this card called PDaudio, you can record very high quality live recordings to a SD card. Using an X50V with this setup you can buffer recordings to the BIS as you swap SD cards and not miss a second of music! Just one problem though... My X50V doesn't recognize the CF interface card for what it is. When I insert it I get a message that an unknown card type has been inserted in slot one and it asks me for the name of it's driver. The software that works with that card (2 different packages) installs a driver for the interface during the software installation. It's a hidden file in the windows directory called pdaudio.dll. I was able to find it using resco file explorer but the system doesn't appear to know that it's there. Neither of the recording programs can communicate with the card at all. So what is going on? Is my Axim defective? Is it a problem with WM2003SE? Is this a known issue? It works fine with CF data cards and SD cards. I've contacted the manufacturer of the interface card but they don't know what the problem is. From what I've read here Dell support won't be of much help either unless telling me to reset would help... I love the look and feel of the Axim but I need it to work for these 2 tasks or I can't justify the expense... I tried updating to A04 but it made no difference.

HELP!!!
??????

Thanks,

a GPS card sometimes also refered to as " GPS MODEM " ... ;)

so by the look of things ... either your card is incompatible and/or you need to set it up properly with compatible drivers .. :)

also ... sometimes these things are setup in order ... for example ... most required you to install the drivers FIRST ( cannot plug the device in before installing drivers ) ... if you do ... things could screw up.

Hey,

It seems that there's a known issue with the CF GPS that I have which I got from ALK when I purchased Copilot!Live4 a few years ago. Their support site lists it as an issue. It's typical of tech support in the computer industry though that their Tech idin't mention that to me when I called. He just said that CopilotLive4 was not tested with the Axim X50V and WM2003SE and that if I upgrade to CopilotLive6 everything would work fine. Well from what I read that's not the case at all. In fact their site says that version 4 IS compatible with WM2003SE and that I need to send in my CF GPS for upgrading. So now I paid for an unnecessary software upgrade and still won't be up and running. Oh well, I'll just send back their software with my GPS. As for the other card, I was very careful to do just as you said. The software was installed first, then I did a soft reset and then I inserted the card. The driver for the card is in the windows directory. I needed to use Resco file explorer to see it because it was hidden. Why the system can't recognize the card is a mystery though... I'm waiting to hear from the software developer of the recording software. If anyone can help me he can. If he can't get it going I guess I'll use advanced replacement if I have to. That's a crap shoot though. Refurbed gear is questionable at best...

Thanks,

Not really true. Refurbed Axims have a good reputation for working as they should.

Welcome to Aximsite, BTW.

Thanks JakeRich! This site really is an awesome resource. I love my Axim. It's great for surfing through my Treo650. The built in WIFI and BT are great... If I can get by these problems I'll be a very happy camper. Thanks for the tip about the quality of the refurbs also. I got the impression that they were unreliable from some of the posts that I'd read here but maybe they weren't really representative of the true situation. I'll feel better about a swap if that's the case!
