Ya, I was thinking the same thing. Seemed way too easy.

But there's still quite a few people out there they have to make this WM5 mess up to, especially all those that bought the X50v specifically because they were giving the WM5 upgrade to them.

$40 a pop isn't so bad to lose... $400 a pop, on the other hand, is bad, if they have to start refunding those people who bought the X50v as a WM5 unit.

Too bad I can’t get refund; I bought my dell axim x50v 1.5 years ago when the latest OS was wm2003SE …
But still I don’t think I lost 400 bucks, I am using my axim a lot. So far it’s ok, no problems whatzzzsozzzever. On the other hand, it’s pissing me of, we cant upgrade to wm2005. at this point, Dell really suckzzz. Even more, I dont mind buying wm5 cd and the "promised" update separately, still it's better than losing 400 bucks....

:-(

Latest Dell Promise

Just for fun, here's what Dell told me today (5 April 2006):

7:33:38 PM Vibhor_01113220 David I would like to tell you that there are some compatibility issues between x50 and Windows mobile 5.0.
7:34:00 PMV ibhor_01113220 Our R and D department is working on it along with Microsoft .
7:34:16 PM Vibhor_01113220 So they will be releasing a patch for X50 also .
7:34:31 PM Vibhor_01113220 T his patch will remove the incompatibility .
7:35:45 PM Vibhor_01113220 So please wait for a couple of weeks for that patch .

I think we all know that the chances of there ever being a patch for WM5 on the x50 are, well let us just say very slim.....

Fortunately, for me at least, WM5 with the various hacks and patches found in the forums is working pretty well. Still I would love to have something official.

It's interesting, I thought Dell had quit promising the upgrade "in a couple of weeks." I wonder if Dell knows that it is basically the benchmark of poor customer service????

In short, I don't think they do. I don't think they care.

Here's what Dell technical support told me today:
04/21/2006 07:58:01PM DM: "When do you expect the update for Windows Mobile 5 on the x50v?"
04/21/2006 07:58:35PM Agent (Amit_0193063): "David at this time I cannot give you a exact date however we are expecting it within 15 days"
