How to assign Bluetooth activesync to a button?
A while back I found an article that outlined how to configure one of the buttons on the side of the x50v such that when you push it, a bluetooth activesync session is kicked off.
This was nice because I could just walk into my office, hit the button and get everything synced up without having to go through the menus of activating the bluetooth activesync, or god forbid, have to put the device in the cradle.
Anyway, I've lost the article and can't remember how to do it.
The gist is that you make a copy or shortcut to some program then assign the button to that shortcut. Then you go into Activesync on the device, and in the options, set the port to "bluetoothactivesync".
Does anyone know what I'm talking about and have a link or suggestion of how to do this?
Edit: I'm using WM2003.
Thanks

There is a small program called BTSwitch (do a search it was posted on this site) that will switch BT on and off. I think you could asign it to a button and it will do what you are looking for. Let us know if it works.

switching on/off bluetooth isn't what he's after ...that can already be done by the side wireless button.
to activesync VIA bluetooth ...you have to actually go into activesync menu and click "SYNC VIA BLUETOOTH".
he's after doing these steps automatically ;)
the only program I found and am using to automates shortcuts...etc.. is VITO VOICE2GO above ... I make a macros by making it learn the steps I'd clicked & assigned a name & then assigned a voice or button command to that name and.... VOILA ;)

Oh I see now. What about this:
http://oz.sciox.org/ozbt.html
I don't have a 2003SE machine to test it but I think it can be configured to automatically turn on BT with AS. Then activating AS via a button should synch via BT atomatically. If I remember, before I changed my x50v to WM5, everytime I activated AS it automatically used the BT sync. What you are describing is only true of WM5 (and it annoys me as well!)

Thanks all for your replies. I'll look into that VITO app. However, there is a way to do this without using a third party app.

The OzBT I referenced is free. You configure it to turn on BT whenever AS is activated. If you set up your Desktop AS to sync via BT then whenever you start AS on the PPC it should start up both AS and BT as well and start to sycn. At least in principle that's how it should work. As I said I don't have a machine to test it on. If that works then all you have to do is map a button to AS. I don't think there is any other way to turn on both AS and BT with one button.

Thanks ya1950. I just loaded OzBT up and can get Activesync to become active using a button click as well as turn BT on (using OzBT), but I can't figure out how to get Activesync to actually connect and sync.
I've emailed the auther of OzBT for suggestions.

I would have thought that would do it. How is do you have your AS connection settings set up on the PC? Make sure you have 'always allow connections to one of the following' checked and the correct Com port for your BT entered. Also check 'Open AS when my device connects' Besides that I can't think of anything else to suggest.

I've got things setup as you suggest in your post but no dice. The only way I can get things to sync is to go into the BT Manager, click-hold the "ActiveSync with MyComputer" in the "Bluetooth Shortcuts" area and choose the "connect" option. Then everything works fine and syncing occurs.

[QUOTE=gitano]
"how to configure one of the buttons on the side of the x50v such that when you push it, a bluetooth activesync session is kicked off."
If I read you right, you want to press a button, & it will start a program.
First, you need to link the program & put it in Program Group. See my post:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=116448
To assign the button:
1) Settings > Personal > Button
Select a button:
Assign a program:
You can assign any program to any button. Hope that's what you're looking for. Its free.

Thanks for your post Enquerir. However, that isn't the problem I'm having. Please see my original post.
My issue revolves specifically around Bluethooth Activesync and how to assign a Bluetooth Activesync session to a hardware button.
Thanks again,
Royce

Did you find out how you used to do it? I would really like to be able to do that, but I find no answers.

OK, here's how to set up the top left side button (record) to startup ActiveSync on your iMate without having to fondle any registry settings.
On the Pocket PC...
1. ActiveSync / Tools / Options... / Options... (yes options twice)
2. "When cradled Enable PC sync using this connection" 'Bluetooth
3. Startup an ActiveSync connection as you normally would...
4. Now setup a shortcut to the program "windows\repllog.exe" into the Start menu. To do this
a. open up Explore in ActiveSync
b. Go into My Pocket PC
c. Go into Windows folder
d. Find repllog.exe and right click and select copy
e. Go into the Start Menu folder (within Windows folder)
f. Right click, paste shortcut - rename to something like ActiveSync Direct
Back on the Pocket PC
5. Gracefully disconnect ActiveSync.
6. Start / Settings / Buttons
7. Choose Button 4
8. Set the button assignment as ActiveSync Direct (or whatever you called it above) and click OK
9. Reset your Pocket PC and wait about 15 seconds for everything to get loaded (esp. Bluetooth which takes a little while).
10. Press the top left side button. Voila! Easy!
If you get the ActiveSync - "Port Not Available" message, it just means that Bluetooth hasn't loaded yet. Tap OK, check that Bluetooth is activated and if so, try again.
One more thing that I forgot to mention...
Pressing the button again whilst you are in an ActiveSync connection will gracefully drop the connection. So the button becomes an On/Off for ActiveSync.

Edit: I haven't been able to make it work with a button, because it desn't appear as a program when choosing the ones for the buttons. Maybe it has to do with the fact that you cannot copy the .exe, but just a shortcut. Another issue is that when you start again the program while connected, it does disconnect, but only for a second, and reconnects to the pc.

maybe if you were to try to copy the "repllog.exe" as a whole EXE file instead of just a shortcut it might work
this method of copy a file can be done by navigating through the DESKTOP EXPLORE interface ;)
