Dock broken :(

Just on Monday night i noticed my PDA wasn't sync'ing, when i had a look i noticed the dock was broken, the plug that goes into the bottom of the PDA was sitting lop-sided. When I opened it up, i found that the plug was completely broken off the board.

So I have glued it back onto the board with some Locktite. It now charges but still doesn't sync, so might give the pins all a touch with a soldering iron to make them make contact again.

Was anyone else had any troubles with their dock? Unluckily mine has happened about 1 month out of warrenty :( :( I'm not looking forward to having to spend anther $45 (AU) on a dock :(

I would still talk with dell and find out if they would replace your cradle. If not, sorry.

On a bright side, you can use the Charger adapter that came with it and charge your x50v. Also, you can sync your handheld using bluetooth (provided that you are in WM2003 ). If you are not interested in paying 49 dollars for the cradle, you could buy the sync cable for 29 australian dollars, or you could find 3rd party cables that maybe cheaper than these.

Have exactly the same problem - I've even purchased a second dock and it lasted less than 24 hours before it broke as well. I can't see any damage to the connector at the bottom of the PDA but there has to be some problem. The first dock the connector broke completely off the board. With this second one after just a day (even with being very careful of the connector) the connector has broken off on one side. This is extremely frustrating.

The x50 dock is basically a disgraceful design.

Dell should be ashamed. The only viable alternative is the 'travel sync' cable.

Or, get a bluetooth adapter for your PC and use wireless to sync.

You might try jiggling the PDA on the connector. I have to do that with mine periodically. :o

BTW - I've already had one dock fail and had to buy a new one myself. :(
