x50v wouldn't turn on, now it won't turn off

Hi All, first my x50v (2003se a05) wouldn't turn on this morning, either in its cradle or off. I checked and tested it with two fully charged batteries and that didn't help either. (and I checked and the lock button isn't on.)

After trying to soft reset it several times, the blue Dell startup screen finally came on, but it now its stuck like that. It won't even turn off. Every soft reset brings it back to the same startup screen where it freezes again.

I haven't installed any new programs, used any new SD or CF cards. . . so no idea what could be causing this. Any help would be appreciated!

Try pulling the battery and letting it set for about an hour. That should be plenty of time for the internal capacitor to fully discharge. This is the same as a Hard reset.
:jd:

Then put the battery back in a see what happens. If still same problem, then you may need Dell Service.

How old is your Ax? IF you have kids or pets, have they been near it and maybe an unannounced accident happened?

Thanks for your help Greenbak, followed your advice and went through with the hard reset. Luckily I backed it up not too long ago so nothing important was lost.

Wish I knew the cause though!

Glad to help.

I had a similiar experience with an old device of mine. I do frequent soft resets on my x50v and so far it has been good to me. The occasional application will blow up but the base device stays pretty constant. For some reason some apps don't like letting go of memory and the only way to recover memory is the soft reset.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from the WM5 upgrade on you x50v. from what i have been reading, it causes nothing but grief for our models.

AND whatever you do backup, backup, backup.
