Transfefring Files to X50v

I have been transferring files from my laptop to the SD card in my X50v and feel that it takes an awful long time. I do a copy & paste from Windows Explorer. The files are WMV files so I get the window saying that it is doing a copy & convert. What I am seeing is 5 minutes for a 35meg file. Is that typical? Or is it really the conversion that is eating up the time? The laptop is USB 2.0 and it just seems like that is slow to me.

Not unusual. There are many things that can affect speed in the data transfer process, but your within normal response times. I get a similar response from my digital camera to a different PC from the one I sync my PDA with. That is a little faster, but there is no conversion in that process.

At least, that is my experience as well.

A card reader speeds up the process.

Thanks. I have a question on the card reader though. Will the AXIM be able to play the WMV file if I just take it from a PC to an SD card? There has to be some reason for the conversion it is doing.

If you are just copying and pasting the file, you are doing no conversion. It just takes a while to copy to cards like that becuse they aren't like harddrives.

A card reader is great for files that need no conversion (or backing up data).

Thanks TW for defining it better. I moved the WMV files to the SD card via a reader & the X50v doesn't recognize them.
