X50V Crashed completely

I have an X50V, and have had it for about 8 months. Right after Christmas, I set up IGuidance on it for the new GPS we got. The blue tooth was accidentally engaged for too long and wore out the battery on the Dell. I lost everything I had on it, and had to start over. I reloaded some programs, including IGuidance. It has been giving me troubles (calendar loads, but does not show appointments, etc.), and recently crashed completely. I tried a hard boot, and got to the point where it says to press this button if you want to clear all data from memory or this button if you want to cancel. It is currently stuck there and will not let me do anything else. I tried another hard boot - nothing. I tried to take out the battery and let it sit - nothing. I am not sure what else to try (and am not very technology literate). Does anyone have other ideas for me to try?

How long did you leave the battery out for? I would give it at least a few hours or even overnight. Also, did you try putting it on the cradle to charge? Sometimes that helps start it up.

I left the battery out for a few minutes. Yes, I put it on the cradle, and nothing. My husband suggested letting it wear the battery completely out again over night to see if that will help. Woudl leaving the battery out overnight be better?

First, make sure the lock switch on the left side isn't locked. Secondly, make sure you're pressing the hardware button on the Axim, and not trying to press the icon on the screen with the stylus.

I upgraded to WM5 2 around 2 months ago, and it was tolerable knowing that an update was coming, even though I did have to soft reset it more then a few times a day...

anyway... I did a soft reset last thursday and it the dell logo came up and the progress bar got to about 80% full and it stopped. I thought, ok, not a big surprise, to I did another soft reset same thing...so then after several attempts I did a hard reset, same thing, 80% then freezes there. So after many hard resets, letting the backup battery and main battery drain completely, trying it in the cradle...
...basically everything I could of tried I did, I finally came to the conclusion that WM5 sucks because of Dell. I called Dell and my FOURTH DELL AXIM x50v (under warrenty) is on the way, this is since June '05. I know this because the last replacement I received had part of the screen not work. The one before that, the external speaker stopped working... my mom had the send her mouse and keyboard and monitor back that Dell sent her because they stopped working, and the one that they sent her as a replacement, she can't turn off now but gave up sending her stuff back.

So my conclusion is, thank god Dell has a reliable warrenty because the chances of getting a product from them that does not break down soon after you get it is not good to say the least.

The lock switch was not engaged, and I was pressing the buttons on the bottom, not the screen. I might be blonde, but I at least got that part. ha ha. :-)

Thanks!

Worried It happened to me..

Maybe my problem was different, but it was definetly related to the battery. There were no indications but it went into a loop where I could reset it but it would only get 90% through the reset and just turn off. Turns out the battery just needed to be charged. I came to this resolve only after I put it on the cradle and started it while connected. That worked.. Sounds like yours is a more complex senerio.

Good luck and God bless you..

Well, I pulled the battery out all night, and tried it this morning. It seems to be OK (but it was OK the last time I tried it, too, before it crashed again). I uploaded the info from my most recent back-up. Hopefully this will be the last time I have to try this.....

On a side note - it is common for people to have problems with the Axim X50V? This is my second one, as the first one kept acting like I did a hard boot every time I turned it on....

I would look into not coming up from a back up if you were having stability problems to begin with. It's possible to restore the very same problem that caused the original hard reset. I know that manually reloading all your programs can be a major pain in the neck, but it would be more of a problem to still have the culprit on the machine.

I have already done it now. I will see what happens. If it gives me more trouble, then I will re-do everything from the beginning. My main problem with that is the loss of my calendar.....I have everyone's birthdays, anniversaries, etc. on there. Do you know a way to keep that and just transfer that part?

If you sync regularly, all that information would be on your desktop Outlook. You wouldn't need to restore from a backup to get this information back; just sync.

So, while it is working, if I sync it now, then the theory is that when/if I have to do this again, I can just sync it again without carrying over the old problems? Is that correct?
