Mad Screen flashes when USB in.. Is it...

Buggered?
I only just got it, have been trying to downgrade and it just wont. I have win2000 laptop to connect it with and have tried active sync 3.7 - 4.1 and nothing works. Yesterday I did get a connection but now it just drops straight away and the screen flashes.

I think it is a bag of and I am sending it back!

Any other ideas

You don't say what kind of axim you have. If you are using wm5, only Activesync 4 will work.

Sounds like you may not have let the battery completely charge before using. If it is plugged into the usb port it may not be getting enough power.

Charge it for 8 hours in the cradle attached to a power source and not connected to the computer.

I would then start with a fresh install of the appropriate activesync, following the instructions for when to connect the axim.

Be sure your power adapter is plugged into the cradle. Flashing screen when connected to USB means that the Axim is attempting to charge via USB, which cannot supply sufficient current to charge the Axim. Note that this is not a hard and fast rule, since some aftermarket charge/sync connectors connect the USB +5V to both the Axim's USB +5V and its +5.4V charge pins. Some USB controllers and hubs will supply sufficient current to charge the Axim while it is active ("on"), but USB specifications only state 500 mA while the Axim may require up to 2 Amps.
Also, noted above, it would help us help you if you would kindly state the exact model of Axim and the device and means you use to connect to your PC, as well as the Operating system (WM2003 or WM05?) of your Pocket PC.

You get a screen flashes when the Axim is connected to PC via usb connectors, like the one from Belkins. It's normal. If your Axim has battery power lower than 68%, then you get that.

When you get your screen flashes, after the connection, just turn it off and check later. After the battery get charged, let say 70% or higher, you won't be getting it.

Think the cause is if the battery power is weak, it get flashes and not getting sync. Btw, that doesn't happen when you use the cradle.

Big Smile HUmm,

OK, It was a 50v, running WM5, straight from a hard reset, just time and name altered.

The battery was full after hours of charging and said about 98% when I was into it.

The only thing I know, is that it did work for a few hours, runnig AS 4, but the explore device option did not work, said a folder did not exist. So I thought, he, got an upgrade for AS, so maybe that would work.

Since the upgrade it just flashed, I have charged to max again, but same, just a few seconds connection at best, no synching and it could not make or recognise a relationship.

I reformatted my PC patopn (running Win 2000 SP4 to alowe AS4 to work) and started from scratch. Still no joy.:rolling:

So,, having spent 3 days wasting time resetting and installing etc I am done with it and sent it back for one with WM2003 on it to start with.

After my brother put me onto this site I cant believe there arnt people at the doors of MS or Dell with great big guns. This drives you mad.

I am a MAC user and have been for a few years, I almost forgot how bad windows is until this.
Bring on the MAC PDA!!!

Have fun, will no dought post on here when my 50v with 2003 falls down too!:-)

Hmmm ... what do you use for USB sync cable? I am using Axim x51v (A06 ROM) and Belkins USB charger/sync cable.

Oh, one more thing. How old is your PC? I had your situation, with old PC in my office. Old one means PIII CPUs. From home, I am using P4 3.2Ghz, seems to be working fine, when the battery is charged over 67%.

Worried using sony picturebook

Well i am using a sony picturebook, cruso chip, 600.
Yep I know this is no beast by any standards, but hey it is updated to win2000sp4 (which Dell say, and Microsoft say should work) and reformatted runs no problem. I dont see what it should have a problem connecting to a relative small gadgit.
anyway, it is this laptop I want to replace as I use if for GPS in my car and I thought I woul djust get up to date and be able to email et c from it also. Otherwise I could just go for a straight GPS:rolling:

It did work for a few synchs yesterday,

Its in the post now anyway! 2003se coming in new one!! Phew (he says, hopefully)

If this new (old) version dont work how I want I will go for a straight GPS and wait for a MacPad.
:approve:
